THE SMALL SOUTHERN TOWN. The atmosphere is peaceful, quiet,
friendly, and unchanged through the years. Little is required for a
scandal, but past scandals are long buried and seldom referred to.
THE GROUP. They are six friends who have known and loved each
other since childhood. The friends, three boys and three girls, are
so close they shut out everyone else.
THE ROMANCE. One of the group suddenly finds herself the heroine
of a fantastic Cinderella story when she is swept into the arms of
a handsome, wealthy, and famous singer.
THE MURDER. They grieve not for the victim, but for the
murderer. Can the friends stay close after the betrayal of one of
their own, the most beloved member of the group?
EVERYONE loves Caroline. But who loves her enough to kill for
her?
Xenotransplantation could have an impact on at least three aspects of medicine. The first is as a means of overcoming a severe shortage of human donor organs for the treatment of organ failure. The second aspect relates to the possibility that a xenogeneic organ would not be susceptible to infection by a "human" virus and thus the xenograft might resist injury caused by such viruses. The third and, as of yet, unexplored aspect relates to a means of delivering genes for therapeutic purposes thus overcoming some of the limitations of "conventional" gene therapy.

A lovely young bride, Laura Wainwright settled into her husband's
oppressive family mansion, but could not suppress the feeling of
foreboding that both the house and Richard Wainwright's family
provoked in her. Hidden by huge oaks and high hedges, the great
stone house had always sheltered Richard's two strange sisters and
his mysterious widowed brother.
Feeling like an intruder, Laura found that her growing disquiet
had now become a desperate fear, when a series of "incidents"
endangered her life. But far worse was her husband's seeming
indifference toward her.
Then one night Laura was awakened by the sound of furtive
footsteps and the sickly sweet SCENT OF LILACS...
