Get ready to fall in love with THE PINK HOUSE - home of the new novel from Sunday Times bestselling author, Catherine Alliott. Emma and Hugh have a dilemma. Hugh's parents have divorced and neither wants the Pink House - the family home he grew up in and which holds so many memories. If they take it on, they must also accept all that comes with it, including Hugh's sister Sally, living in the garden cottage; playing host to their eldest son's wedding; converting the barn into an art gallery for Emma's new career. Whatever happened to the lazy rural idyll? Then all Emma's expectations are thrown into doubt when she runs into Rory McCloud - the one who got away so many years ago. Suddenly, she's wondering what might have been. A big move can change so much, but for Emma could it change everything?
In this ground-breaking collection of critical essays, 15 writers explore the experimental, interdisciplinary and radically transgressive field of contemporary live art in South Africa. Set against a contemporary South African society that is chronologically `post' apartheid, but one that continues to grapple with material redress, land redistribution and systemic racism, Acts of Transgression finds a representation of the complexity of this moment within the rich potential of a performative art form that transcends disciplinary boundaries and aesthetic conventions. The collection probes live art's intersection with crisis and socio-political turbulence, shifting notions of identity and belonging, embodied trauma and loss, questions of archive, memory and the troubling of colonial systems of knowing, an interrogation of narratives of the past and visions for the future. These diverse essays, analysing the work of more than 25 contemporary South African artists and accompanied by a striking visual record of more than 50 photographs, represent the first major critical study of contemporary live art in South Africa; a study that is as timeous as it is imperative.

What is strategic HRM, and how do you apply it in business? What makes good HR strategy and how do you develop it? What are the key issues that need to be considered when creating, developing, and embedding a strategic approach to managing people? These are the fundamental questions asked by HR professionals and tackled in this innovative and comprehensive textbook. Drawing on the latest academic research, the well-respected author team take a reliably thematic approach to SHRM. Broken into four distinct parts, the book addresses the context, theories, themes, and future of managing people strategically. Tata Motors, Samsung, Pizza Express, and Deliveroo make up some of the case studies and examples that feature across the book, ensuring that theoretical discussion is always linked to practical application. New 'Strategic HRM in Action' boxes take this one step further by presenting students with a scenario in which they themselves can make strategic decisions and reflect on their own evaluation of real-life business practices. Critical thinking is essential in SHRM, so frequent Critical Reflection boxes, Review Questions, and questions or activities to accompany every case study ensure students are challenged to engage with the subject critically and reflectively, and consider their own evaluations of the essential theories and the strategic practices adopted by different organizations. Global case studies and an opening chapter dedicated to the global context of SHRM challenge the dominant Western perspective and provide a rounded and adaptable view of SHRM. A user-friendly structure and wide range of learning features, including learning objectives, key concept boxes, and summaries, ensure the text remains accessible, even for those completely new to SHRM, allowing all students to benefit from the book's ideal balance between the latest academic theory and contemporary, real-world practice.

Information professionals are under constant stress. Libraries are
ushering in sweeping changes that involve the closing of branches
and reference desks, wholesale dumping of print, disappearing
space, and employment of non-professional staff to fill what have
traditionally been the roles of librarians. Increasing workloads,
constant interruptions, ceaseless change, continual downsizing,
budget cuts, repetitive work, and the pressures of public services
have caused burnout in many information professionals.

Risk, Resilience, and Positive Youth Development: Developing Effective Community Programs for High-Risk Youth: Lessons from the Denver Bridge Project describes an approach to developing and testing effective community-based programs for at-risk children and youth. This volume shows how elements of risk and resilience, positive youth development, and organizational collaboration are used to develop a comprehensive intervention framework called the Integrated Prevention and Early Intervention (IPEI) Model. The IPEI is then applied to a community-based after-school program called the Bridge Project to illustrate how an integrated intervention framework can be used to prevent childhood and adolescent problems and improve academic achievement. Findings from an evaluation of the Denver Bridge Project intervention components are presented, and recommendations for advancing policy and practice for high-risk youth in community-based programs are described. Readers will follow the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and assessment of the Bridge Project guided by first-person perspectives from program participants who share their stories throughout the book. Risk, Resilience, and Positive Youth Development presents an integrated theory and model for working with at-risk youth, demonstrated in a detailed case example, giving practitioners, administrators, educators, researchers and policymakers a complete package.
This book provides a user-friendly guide to current and emerging
issues in fraud both internal to the company, and external. It
explains the terminology used and sets out the chief risks which
management accountants need to be aware of. It then sets out a
practical framework for the management and mitigation of fraud
risk. This is followed up by an explanation of what to do in the
event of concerns that a fraud has been perpetrated, is underway or
is being attempted. The book also guides the reader through the
process of dealing with the law enforcement authorities in the
event of an investigation. The book is for all those accountants
who are not professionals in risk management or investigation
procedures, but who need to be aware of the issues, many of which
will impact on their area of responsibility; it therefore aims to
give them a user-friendly manual to the issue of fraud risk. In
addition the book will provide a valuable update on emerging trends
in the fraud environment. The author is a financial services and
regulatory consultant with extensive experience in fraud risk
management. She is also Manager, Corporate Governance for an
international life company, and an examiner and moderator who
lectures and writes extensively on a wide range of compliance and
financial services matters.
