The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a United
States federal agency under the Department of Health and Human
Services headquartered in the Greater Atlanta area in Georgia. It
works to protect public health and safety by providing information
to enhance health decisions and it promotes health through
partnerships with state health departments and other organizations.
The CDC focuses national attention on developing and applying
disease prevention and control (especially infectious diseases),
environmental health, occupational safety and health, health
promotion, injury prevention and education activities designed to
improve the health of the people of the United States. The CDC
writes and distributes hundreds of publications reviewing projects,
explaining recent research, detailing new diseases, educating the
public, and more. These publications work to spread the message and
further instill the mission for which the CDC works. Among these
publications include titles like: Disability and Health in the
United States, Nutrition Monitoring in the United States, and The
25th Anniversary of the National Health Survey.
Second Edition.Sexually Transmitted Diseases Concern Everyone
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates about 65 million
Americans are living with a sexually transmitted disease (STD).
About half of all people will be infected by an STD sometime in
their lifetimes. More than 19 million new cases occur each year In
the United States, almost half of them among young people aged 15
to 24. Each year, one in four teens contracts an STD. As many as
one in four Americans have Genital Herpes, and up to 90% are
unaware that they have it. Each year in the United States, more
than $13 billion is spent on major STDs including human
immunodeficiency virus (HIV). All STDs can be improved by
treatment, and some can be cured, but many people who are infected
don't recognize the symptoms. This book gives information primarily
from official government medical sources on the most common STDs
extant in the United States, including description of symptoms,
more than 70 figures and photographs, what to do to reduce risk of
exposure, and what to do if you think you might have been exposed.
If you are concerned, then do something. Inactivity and ignoring
information will not make it better. Buy this book and share it
with your friends. Illnesses like STDs will only thrive in darkness
and ignorance.
This report summarizes the comments, suggestions, and
recommendations of a working group convened by the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention to discuss the future of traumatic
brain injury registries and data systems.
CDC has estimated that in the 20 years after 1981, when the first
cases of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome were identified, at
least 1.3-1.4 million persons in the united States were infracted
with human immunodeficiency virus, the virus that causes AIDS.
In January 2011, we received a confidential HHE request from
employees of a rail yard in Alabama. The request concerned the
occurrence of prostate cancer among transportation department
employees and their exposures to diesel exhaust, radio frequencies,
and vibration.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)
received a request for a health hazard evaluation at a poultry
processing plant in Arkansas. The Occupational Safety and Health
Administration submitted the request to determine health outcomes
of an unintentional chlorine gas release in June 2011. NIOSH
investigators visited the plant in June 2011, November 2011, and
January 2012. The report includes the authors' findings and
recommendations.
3168The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
(NIOSH) received a request for a health hazard evaluation (HHE) at
three eyeglass manufacturing facilities in Minnesota. Managers
submitted the HHE request because of ergonomic concerns and
musculoskeletal disorders of employees working in the surfacing and
finishing departments. NIOSH's findings and recommendations are
discussed.
