With the integration of more distributed or aggregated renewables, and the wide utilization of power electronic devices, modern power systems are facing new stability and security challenges, such as the weakly damped oscillation caused by wind farms connected through long distance transmission lines, the frequency stability problem induced by the reduction of inertia and the voltage stability issue resulting from the interactions between transmission systems and dynamic loads. Meanwhile, synchronized phasor measurement technology developed very fast in the last decade, and more phasor measurement units (PMUs) and wide area measurement systems (WAMSs) have been deployed. These provide more insights into the system dynamics and approaches to overcoming the new challenges. This book addresses the emerging concepts, methodologies and applications of wide area monitoring, control and protection in power systems with integrated large scale renewables. Chapters cover monitoring, modelling and validation, control, and data mining with an emphasis on synchrophasor technology, and experiences with real power grids.
Developing algorithms for multi-dimensional Fourier transforms, this book presents results that yield highly efficient code on a variety of vector and parallel computers. By emphasising the unified basis for the many approaches to both one-dimensional and multidimensional Fourier transforms, this book not only clarifies the fundamental similarities, but also shows how to exploit the differences in optimising implementations. It will thus be of great interest not only to applied mathematicians and computer scientists, but also to seismologists, high-energy physicists, crystallographers, and electrical engineers working on signal and image processing.
This graduate-level text provides a language for understanding, unifying, and implementing a wide variety of algorithms for digital signal processing - in particular, to provide rules and procedures that can simplify or even automate the task of writing code for the newest parallel and vector machines. It thus bridges the gap between digital signal processing algorithms and their implementation on a variety of computing platforms. The mathematical concept of tensor product is a recurring theme throughout the book, since these formulations highlight the data flow, which is especially important on supercomputers. Because of their importance in many applications, much of the discussion centres on algorithms related to the finite Fourier transform and to multiplicative FFT algorithms.
This book offers a complete and well-organized review of the latest advances made in developing ultra-weak chemiluminescence techniques for analytical applications. It systematically introduces the current theories, mechanisms, instruments, technologies, and real applications of ultra-weak chemiluminescence. Compared to books devoted to the normal chemiluminescence and bioluminescence, this book covers a wide range of ultra-weak chemiluminescence based on inorganic chemical reactions and nanotechnology from a principle and practical point of view. This book is intended for readers who are interested in expanding their knowledge of chemiluminescence and employing ultra-weak chemiluminescence techniques to develop new detection methods for analytical applications.

While electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming increasingly popular. Their low oil dependency and low emissions will significantly benefit the environment. However, as demand increases for EVs, their prevalence will also lead to two crucial consequences. First, electric vehicles introduce a heavy load impact onto the power grid by shifting energy demand from gasoline to electricity. The surging load is likely to compromise the grid's reliability and jeopardize its power supply quality. Second, charging stations become indispensable infrastructure to support widescale deployment of EVs. EVs will therefore find themselves competing for both power supply and charging stations. Such competition can degrade quality of service and thus compromise the original intent of advocating electric vehicles. Sustainable Transportation with Electric Vehicles investigates smart electric vehicle charging. It focuses jointly on the quality of service for EV users and the stability and reliability of the power grid. It lays out a solution framework that addresses many of the key problems arising from both the lower and upper levels. The proposed solutions are developed mainly using techniques from the optimization, game theory, algorithmic, and scheduling fields.
