Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made

This latest commentary in the Belief series looks at Paul's
theological wrestling with the divisions facing the early church in
Corinth. These divisions arose for many reasons, among them the
practices of the community: baptism, the Lord's Supper, preaching,
and the exercise of spiritual gifts. The contemporary church in
North America is likewise dealing with divisions of various sorts.
Who can preach? Who can celebrate Communion? Who can marry whom?
With this commentary Charles L. Campbell helps preachers understand
how to better respond to those questions in their own settings.
The Mekong is the most controversial river in Southeast Asia, and
increasingly the focus of international attention. It flows through
6 counties, China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Viet Nam.
The 4 downstream countries have formed the Mekong River Commission
to promote sustainable development of the river and many of their
people depend on it for their subsistence ? it has possible the
largest freshwater fishery in the world, and the Mekong waters
support rice agriculture in the delta in Viet Nam (which produces
about 40% of that country's food) as well as in Cambodia, Laos and
Thailand.
China is now building the first large mainstream dam on the river,
and has proposals for several more. These dams are likely to affect
the downstream countries. Several of the downstream countries also
have plans for large scale hydropower and irrigation development
which could also impact the river.
This book will provide a solid overview of the biophysical
environment of the Mekong together with a discussion of the
possible impacts, biophysical, economic and social, of some
possible development scenarios. It is intended to provide a
technical basis which can inform the growing political and
conservation debate about the future of the Mekong River, and those
who depend on it. It is aimed at river ecologists, geographers,
environmentalists and development specialists both in the basin and
(especially) outside for whom access to this material is most
difficult.
This book will be the first comprehensive treatment of the Mekong
system

A murder, a tryst, a mysterious child. A Victoria aristocrat who
obsesses over her Churchill relatives. A repressive Welsh mother
with a royalty fixation. A once-carefree Hesquiat girl from Nootka
Sound. A dashing Icelandic philanderer. And quiet, steady Julia
Godolphin, trying to rise above it all. The lost novel of Norma
Macmillan, the Vancouver actress who lived much of her life in New
York and Hollywood, is the work of a woman steeped in the American
entertainment industry but deeply in love with the history of her
native province, which eventually drew her home before her death in
2001. "The Maquinna Line: A Family Saga" is set on Vancouver Island
from 1871 to 1945, with a nod to the meeting of Captain Cook and
Chief Maquinna in 1778. It traces the stories of the five families
of varied social standing, including two descendents of Chief
Maquinna. In the end, they're all ordinary people trying to find
happiness in the face of intrigue, ambition, misunderstanding and
changing social and sexual mores.
