'We were nearly there when some figures blocked our way. I went cold all over. This was no chance encounter. They had planned this and waited for us. This was it.''Move out of the way Blackie' the skinhead said. 'We got business with your friend.' Star Smith has enough problems in life trying to keep her wacky family a secret. Then a black girl arrives on the scene.... With the racist attitudes of kids in her area Star knows that if she befriends Ebony she could lose more than her reputation.

"My college lectures are colloquial, familiar, full of anecdote, and often humorous; they are purposely made so, to suit the occasion. At the end of the week I meet the students, and find them weary . . . and only in a condition to receive something which will attract and secure their attention, and fire their hearts."

Though best remembered as the most popular preacher of the Victorian era, C. H. Spurgeon was also founder and president of the Pastor's College in London. He supervised the training of over 800 students, presided at an annual conference for ministers, and, on Friday afternoons, delivered regular lectures on every aspect of pulpit ministry.

Featuring such gems as "The Minister's Fainting Fits"; "Posture, Action, Gesture, etc."; and "On the Choice of a Text," this unabridged edition of 28 of Spurgeon's classroom discourses on homiletics overflows with practical wisdom, discerning wit, and sage advice. Covering the call, open-air preaching, ordinary conversations, using illustrations, and conduct outside the church, Spurgeon's words are as rich and nourishing for pastors and students today as they were more than a century ago.

CHAPTERS INCLUDE
- The Minister's Self-Watch
- Our Public Prayer
- On Spiritualizing
- The Blind Eye and the Deaf Ear
- On Conversion as Our Aim
- The Sciences as Sources of Illustration

An excellent and useful gift for pastors and seminary students, church history enthusiasts, and even collectors and readers of classic Victorian literature.

The student or pastor with a small but growing library, as well as the pastor possessing an extensive one, will welcome the opportunity to secure this reprint of Spurgeon's catalog of Biblical commentaries and expositions. Once you begin to dip into this volume it will become a faithful friend by your side. Worth its weight in gold! "New commentaries on the Bible abound, but often the cutting edge is dull. With few exceptions, the old works are better by far. Spurgeon's Commenting and Commentaries is invaluable for identifying the best works of past generations, many of which have been reprinted in our day." - Dr. Robert P. Martin

Farm Sermons (Paperback): Charles Haddon Spurgeon Farm Sermons (Paperback)
Charles Haddon Spurgeon
R515 Discovery Miles 5 150 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Farm Sermons are lessons learned from scripture dealing with the land. "Farmers are as plentiful as ever, and discourses, designed for them will find hearers if they deserve them. "It is fit that farmers should have sermons gathered out of their own occupation, for it is one which, above all others, abounds in holy teaching; and, as it would be ill for dwellers in the Indies to go from home for gold and spices, so would it be unwise to leave the field and the plough in search of instruction. He who dwells at Newcastle wastes time when he goes far for coals; he who lives by the labour of the field will be foolish if he neglects the teaching of nature for the most glittering philosophy. Some of the mightiest of prophets and preachers came from the plough, and surely that must be a good college which has furnished such able divines. As all the world is fed by the produce of the farm, so may all men's minds find food in meditating upon the ways of God in nature and providence, as seen by the husbandman. Hence we have sought LESSONS FROM THE ACRES."

All of Grace (Paperback): Charles Haddon Spurgeon All of Grace (Paperback)
Charles Haddon Spurgeon
R342 Discovery Miles 3 420 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

All of Grace outlines C.H. Spurgeon's plan of salvation in clear, simple language that everyone can understand and be drawn to the Father. He shows that attempts to please God based upon our own works brings self-righteousness and coldness of heart. It is the free grace and mercy of God that makes the heart glow with warmth and thankfulness for God's love. "Who knows how many will find their way to peace by what they read here? A more important question to you, dear reader, is this--Will you be one of them?" Spurgeon's desire is to help the reader find the path to God and encourage him to follow. "Meet me in heaven ""Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." -- Revelation 22:17 Charles Haddon Spurgeon was a British Baptist preacher known as the "Prince of Preachers." He was a strong figure in the Reformed Baptist tradition, defending the Church in agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith understanding, and opposing the liberal and pragmatic theological tendencies in the Church of his day. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to approximatelly 10,000,000 people. He was a prolific author of many types of works including sermons, an autobiography, commentaries, books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more.

GOD'S WILL, MAN'S WILL, AND FREE WILL Is it possible for a creature to have a free will and to continually exercise that will in complete conformity to the will of God? Yes Are the creatures who thus conform their wills continually to the will of God in servitude? Are they slaves? Yes If God plans, fore-determines and predestinates each and every deed of a man's life, powerfully controlling all circumstances, all persons, even all forces of whatever variety and magnitude that affects his life, can that one be free? Yes In this little book the large subject of God's Will, Man's Will, and Free will is keenly examined by five different authors who make use of the Holy Scriptures to answer the multitude of questions, and of objections to what is written HORATIUS BONAR notes three things about men without Christ: 1. Their souls are not at rest. 2. Their conscience is not at work. And, 3. They do not tremble at the Word of God. The Lord has spoken. There is no room to question when His voice is heard. JONATHAN EDWARDS notes that God is the Supreme Orderer of all things, but that His ordering of all things (His orderings of the heart and fixing the steps of a man - Proverbs 16:1, 9) does not interfere with a man's ability to choose. C. H. SPURGEON notes that men will not come to Christ that they might have LIFE because they are dead in trespasses and sin. Can there be a soul that will not become wiser from these discussions? Edwards (1703-1758) is by far the best known American theologian. After graduating from and teaching at Yale University, he began a very fruitful ministry at Northampton, MA. The church was the scene of the explosive revival of 1734, 35, and burned fiercely for Godunder Edwards for several years. Edwards then went to pastor the lowly Indians. But at last he was called to be the first president of Princeton University, where he served only 5 weeks, dying of smallpox. C. H. Spurgeon (1834-1892) was not only the famed preacher for whom The Metropolitan Tabernacle was built, but he wrote a host of books, published a magazine, was a colporteur, was an expositor, etc. Horatius Bonar (1809-1899) was a Presbyterian minister in Scotland and the author of many excellent books of much practical value. Jay P. Green, Sr. (1918-) is Translator and Editor of The Interlinear Hebrew-Greek-English Bible and the translator of the Modern King James Version of the Holy Bible, The Teenage Version of the Holy Bible, and the Literal translation of the Holy Bible. He has written numerous books on textual criticism.
