El afan de Baudelaire por romper con los modes poeticos romanticos le lleva a buscar una "modernidad" que finalmente encuentra en el reflejo de la vida urbana expresada a traves del "poema en prosa." En esta edicion, junto a Pequenos poemas en prosa, aparece Los paraisos artificiales; dos obras aparentemente dispares, pero que despues de una atenta lectura coinciden en ser un largo poemo en prosa con el mismo caracter rapsodico. Si la primera es un reflejo de la vida parisina, "tan fecunda en asuntos poeticos y maravillosos," la segunda es todo un culto al placer como expresion de una vitalidad en la que esta implicito el germen de la destruccion del propio placer: la degeneracion y la podredumbre.

La actitud decadente y dandy de Baudelaire le sirve para establecer distancias, para intentar distinguirse, alconzar en el aspecto mas superficial aquella perfeccion que le caracteriza. 1919. Charles Baudelaire was a 19th century French poet, translator, literary and art critic. Known for his highly controversial, and often dark poetry, Baudelaire's life was filled with drama and strife, from financial disaster to being prosecuted for obscenity and blasphemy. Long after his death many look upon his name as representing depravity and vice. His reputation rests primarily on The Flowers of Evil, which was perhaps the most important and influential poetry collection published in Europe in the 19th century. Similarly, his Little Prose Poems was the most successful and innovative early experiment in prose poetry of the time. Both of these works are contained in this volume.
