Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
A family is a place where you expect to be loved and nurtured.
Where you can develop and grow knowing that you are loved and
valued. But what if the family you live in is a place where
everything you do is considered wrong: where no love is to be found
and you are considered worthless. A place where you heart shrinks
from the relentless onslaught of constantly living in fear. What
can you cling to so that you not only survive but also develop as a
person? Where can you go to and find a place of safety, refuge and
peace. Set in the village of St Peter's in the 1950s, Tears for
Food tells the story of Richard who though living in a
dysfunctional family, with a controlling and unstable mother, is
able to find solace through his singing in his local church choir;
his friendships with his fellow choristers and his first venture
into love with someone else. His life outside the family is the
only place where he is able to find a place of safety, refuge and
calm. But will it be enough?
In Papua New Guinea, Japanese forces occupy much of the eastern
shoreline and have destroyed a vital radio station needed by the
Allied Forces for navigation. Now, a daring mission by two soldiers
to create a new station has gone terribly wrong. As one man hangs
from his parachute in the dense jungle, he suffers from amnesia. In
the midst of World War II, he has no idea he is. After he is
rescued by members of an indigenous tribe, "Joe" struggles to
remember anything from his past. He meets a Japanese soldier who
has gone AWOL, and Joe begins to wonder if he too is a soldier.
Meanwhile, Mattie Billings, a newlywed living in Australia,
patiently waits for any word about her husband, Rick, who is
serving in the war. She has no idea that he is lost in a jungle
with no recollection he is even married. Worse yet, the only one
who knows what really happened in the skies above Papua New Guinea
has been captured by the Japanese. As three people separated by the
travesty of war struggle to be reunited, each must look deep within
for the answers in order to survive.
