This book is one of very few which, address in detail and in-depth,
how preservice teachers build important mathematical ideas. A
detailed case study of important mathematical learning by five
preservice elementary school teachers, who construct powerful
mathematical ideas by working through a major influential
construction personally.
"Computer Power and Legal Language" explores the central issues
involved in the use of computers to conduct legal business. The
contributors, all experts in their field, take as their starting
point fundamental questions about the potential utility of
computational models of linguistics, intelligence, and logic in the
law: Is it possible to use computing to communicate in the manner
legal experts do? Can legal language be represented in
computational form? How does natural language serve as both a
bridge and a major stumbling block for the communication of
concepts--both among jurists and computers? In answering these and
other questions regarding computers in the law, the contributors
present the results of research on the cutting edge of legal
informatics, expert systems, and legal language, and they introduce
important new applications of computers for lawyers.
Walter begins with an introductory chapter on the ways language
is used in law. Subsequent chapters address a wide range of
concerns: the relationship between precision in meaning and open
texture in legal writing; the application of logic programming to
law; a semantic representation of pre-contractual and contractual
verbs of exchange; the use of CCLIPS, a computer program that reads
and understands the Louisiana civil code; the interface between
human users and legal information retrieval systems; and more. A
state-of-the-art contribution to current research in the field,
this book offers a much-needed synthesis of current theory and
practice regarding computers and legal language.
"Weeds, Control Without Poisons" demonstrates the necessity in
agriculture today for a more holistic, eco-centered perspective.
The author explains what 50 years of deadly chemicals have already
done to our soil and our bodies, demonstrating this process does
not work in any long-term common sense agricultural system and
offering alternatives to chemicals. Explores the workings of soil
ecosystems and teaches how to understand and control the growth of
countless weed species.

Collection of five musicals from the 1940s and '50s. 'Annie Get
Your Gun' (1950) stars Betty Hutton as backwoods sharpshooter Annie
Oakley. Plucked out of obscurity by Buffalo Bill (Louis Calhern),
the rough-edged Annie is groomed for a leading role in Bill's world
famous Wild West show. However, Annie has a rival in the form of
rifleman Frank Butler (Howard Keel), a man she soon falls in love
with. Songs include 'Anything You Can Do' and 'There's No Business
Like Show Business'. In 'Easter Parade' (1948) Fred Astaire plays
one half of a dance team who is ditched by his partner. Deciding he
can make a star out of anyone he wants, he chooses a lowly chorus
girl (Judy Garland) as his new partner. Songs include 'A Couple of
Swells', 'Stepping Out With My Baby' and 'Shaking the Blues Away'.
In 'Calamity Jane' (1953) Doris Day stars as the famous
frontierswoman, who would rather hit targets than chase men - until
she falls for 'Wild Bill' Hickok (Keel). However, he would rather
shoot Indians than chase after a tomboy like Calamity Jane. Songs
include 'The Black Hills of Dakota' and the Oscar-winning 'Secret
Love'. 'High Society' (1956), based on 'The Philadelphia Story'
play by Philip Barry, stars Grace Kelly as socialite Tracy Lord
who, even as she prepares for her second marriage, still has
obvious feelings for her ex-husband (Bing Crosby). She also strikes
up a friendship with a reporter (Frank Sinatra), who has been sent
to cover her society wedding. Songs include 'Who Wants to Be a
Millionaire' and the famous Crosby/Sinatra duet 'Well, Did You
Evah'. 'Meet Me in S.Louis' (1944) follows Esther Smith (Garland),
a young woman from St. Louis who falls in love with the boy next
door. The film is set in 1904, when the city hosted the World's
Fair. Songs include 'Meet Me in St. Louis', 'Have Yourself a Merry
Little Christmas' and 'The Trolley Song'.
Ask the Plant, based on the agronomy of "K." Chandler, offers
farmers and growers a better way to grow plants that involves
reading the unique language of plants, utilizing leaf and petiole
testing, and in turn knowing how to produce a better crop using
only the fertilizers and soil-building ingredients that are truly
needed, when they are most needed. Instead of following the decades
old conventional model where plants are given copious amounts of
soluble nitrogen fertilizers aimed to force-feed the landscape
green, Ask the Plant addresses how to build a healthy soil without
excessive inputs. After more than seven decades of soils being
mined not replenished, especially of organic matter and minerals -
it is time to "Ask the Plant" and find out what our crops and soils
are really telling us so we can produce a better crop using only
what is truly needed.

Collection of four musicals starring Fred Astaire. In 'Easter
Parade' (1948) Astaire plays Don Hewes, one half of a dance team
who is ditched by his partner. Deciding he can make a star out of
anyone he wants, Don chooses lowly chorus girl Hannah Brown (Judy
Garland) as his new partner. Songs include 'Steppin' Out With My
Baby' and 'A Couple of Swells'. In 'Broadway Melody of 1940' (1940)
Johnny Brett (Astaire) and King Shaw (George Murphy) are a
struggling dance duo. When Broadway producer Bob Casey (Frank
Morgan) discovers Johnny's talent he is eager to employ him for his
new show alongside star Clare Bennett (Eleanor Powell) but,
masquerading as Johnny, it is King who gets the part. When King is
unable to perform on opening night, however, Johnny gets his chance
on the big stage. Songs include 'I've Got My Eyes On You' and
'Begin the Beguine'. In Francis Ford Coppola's first big-budget
feature, 'Finian's Rainbow' (1968), Astaire stars as simple-minded
Irishman Finian McLonergan. Fleeing to America with a stolen crock
of gold, he is pursued by Og (Tommy Steele), a leprechaun who is
the rightful owner of the treasure. Songs include 'Old Devil Moon'
and 'If This Isn't Love'. In 'The Band Wagon' (1953) has-been movie
actor Tony Hunter (Astaire) agrees to take part in a Broadway show,
playing opposite ballerina Gabrielle Gerard (Cyd Charisse). The
stars fear they cannot work together, but the show's success is
under a bigger threat from its pretentious musical director (Jack
Buchanan), who turns a simple story into an overblown monster. When
opening night is a flop, it is up to the cast to save the show.
Songs include 'That's Entertainment' and 'Dancing in the Dark'.
The soil is more than just a substrate that anchors crops in place.
An ecologically balanced soil system is essential for maintaining
healthy crops. 'Hands-On Agronomy' is a comprehensive manual on
effective soil management. The function of micronutrients,
earthworms, soil drainage, tilth, soil structure, and organic
matter is explained in thorough detail. Kinsey demonstrates that
working with the soil produces healthier crops with a higher yield.
To that end, he provides an understanding of eco-agricultre as a
viable enterprise that is both naturally and commercially
sustainable. This work offers advice that is both highly valuable
and applicable to the farmer of any level and promotes an
ecological understanding of the farm from the ground up.
Fred Astaire came out of retirement to star in this musical,
playing one half of a dance team who is ditched by his partner.
Deciding he can make a star out of anyone he wants, he chooses a
lowly chorus girl (Judy Garland) as his new partner. Songs include
`A Couple of Swells', `Stepping Out With My Baby' and `Shaking the
Blues Away'. Also starring Ann Miller and Peter Lawford, with an
appearance by a 2-year-old Liza Minelli.
