Young children are better able to cope with their ever-changing
world, overcome obstacles, and grow into emotionally healthy adults
if they are provided opportunities to build their self-awareness
and confidence. Help children appreciate themselves and others,
explore relationships, and develop coping mechanisms for dealing
with change and difficult events in their lives as they learn about
self-esteem, emotions and feelings, family, friends, and changes in
life.
Children deserve to play and learn in safe environments. The
earlier children understand safety concepts, the more naturally
they will deŽvelop the attitudes and respect that lead to lifelong
patterns of safe behavior. Support children as they begin to
incorporate actions into their lives that make them feel more
secure and learn about pedestrian safety, seat belt use, fire and
burn prevention, weapons avoidance, poisoning prevention, and
tobacco and alcohol awareness.
This updated whole-health and safety curriculum contributes to
children's wellness and growth. This five-book set teaches children
from age 3 to kindergarten about important topics--body care,
fitness and nutrition, social and emotional well-being, community
and environment, and safety concepts--as they develop lifelong
healthy habits.
During the preschool and kindergarten years, children begin
spending more time engaging in physical activity and exploring new
foods. Help children learn how to take care of their bodies as they
build a foundation for healthy, active lives with this "Fitness and
Nutrition" curriculum. Children will learn about motor development,
fitness and physical activity, rest and relaxation, food choices
and eating habits, and avoiding germs when eating.
As young children become aware of their bodies, they can begin to
appreciate and care for their health. Encourage children to feel
good about their bodies, prevent the spread of diseases, and gain a
measure of independence and control in their lives with this "Body
Care" curriculum. Children will understand their bodies and the
five senses, and they will learn the importance of washing hands
and practicing good hygiene, brushing teeth and promoting good oral
health, avoiding germs, and taking medicine.
