This Research Handbook explores contemporary intangible cultural
heritage (ICH) from the perspectives of both law and heritage. It
questions, probes and interrogates many different aspects of
contemporary ICH, including the definitions and legal frameworks
designed to safeguard it. In doing so the Research Handbook
highlights not only gaps and inconsistencies, but also questions
the relevance, of the legal framework as it applies to ICH itself.
Each chapter is concerned with a different aspect of contemporary
ICH, international treaties and the law, including the 2003
Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural
Heritage. A diverse range of contemporary examples are explored,
ranging from the local and global identity of migrant children, to
language and the Berlin techno music scene. Taken collectively, and
with its focus on ?'contemporary?' culture, this Handbook is a
departure from the established discourse that tends to include some
forms of heritage to the exclusion of others. The authors challenge
the authority of existing legal instruments, expose their
limitations and propose innovative ways in which contemporary forms
of ICH can be safeguarded, whether via the law or other means. This
innovative Handbook will be of great interest to academics
researching the legal protection of ICH and the relationship
between ICH, human rights, communities, identity and international
trade. Those with an interest in the protection of a-typical
intellectual property will also find this Handbook to be a source
of valuable information. Contributors include: L. Belder, J. Blake,

As technological progress marches on, so anxiety over the shape of
the public domain is likely to continue if not increase. This
collection helps to define the boundaries within which the debate
over the shape of law and policy should take place. From historical
analysis to discussion of contemporary developments, the importance
of the public domain in its cultural and scientific contexts is
explored by lawyers, scientists, economists, librarians,
journalists and entrepreneurs. The contributions will both deepen
and enliven the reader's understanding of the public domain in its
many guises, and will also serve to highlight the public domain's
key role in innovation. This book will appeal not only to students
and researchers coming from a variety of fields, but also to
policymakers in the IP field and those more generally interested in
the public domain, as well as those more directly involved in the
current movements towards open access, open science and open
source.
This collection is the first book to focus on the intersection of
dance, disability, and the law. Bringing together a range of
writers from different disciplines, it considers the question of
how we value, validate, and speak about diversity in performance
practice, with a specific focus on the experience of
differently-abled dance artists within the changing world of the
arts in the United Kingdom. Contributors address the legal
frameworks that support or inhibit the work of disabled dancers and
explore factors that affect their full participation, including
those related to policy, arts funding, dance criticism, and
audience reception.

This is the third edition of a successful book which offers
students and practitioners an up-to-date overview of developments
in Internet law and practice. The editors have once again assembled
a team of specialist authors to write about those aspects of
Internet law which are of special importance in the global
regulation of the Internet and focussed around three principal
themes- e-commerce, intellectual property, and privacy, data
protection and cyber-crime with, in addition a major contribution
on Internet Governance. This edition incorporates for the first
time areas such as data protection, privacy and electronic
surveillance, cyber crime and cyber security, jurisdiction and
dispute resolution online. The sectionon IP contains clear and
comprehensive analysis of the many and varied ways in which IP and
the internet intersect including open source licenses and the IP
problems around search engines. The new edition also takes account
of all current cases and legislation, including the draft revised
EC Telecoms Package and the Audio Visual Media Services Directive.
This book will be essential reading for students, teachers and
practitioners interested in Internet law and practice as well as
technologists and social scientists. 'The book is easy to read,
and...has been well edited...and flows smoothly through the various
topics...the book provides a worthwhile overview of this developing
area of law throughout the world.' Peter Walsh, International Trade
Law Annual 'a thorough and stimulating survey...a good introduction
for lawyers and students approaching Internet and e-commerce law
for the first time, and a useful course text.' Brian Hutchinson,
The Irish Jurist
