Identifying the input-output relationship of a system or
discovering the evolutionary law of a signal on the basis of
observation data, and applying the constructed mathematical model
to predicting, controlling or extracting other useful information
constitute a problem that has been drawing a lot of attention from
engineering and gaining more and more importance in econo metrics,
biology, environmental science and other related areas. Over the
last 30-odd years, research on this problem has rapidly developed
in various areas under different terms, such as time series
analysis, signal processing and system identification. Since the
randomness almost always exists in real systems and in observation
data, and since the random process is sometimes used to model the
uncertainty in systems, it is reasonable to consider the object as
a stochastic system. In some applications identification can be
carried out off line, but in other cases this is impossible, for
example, when the structure or the parameter of the system depends
on the sample, or when the system is time-varying. In these cases
we have to identify the system on line and to adjust the control in
accordance with the model which is supposed to be approaching the
true system during the process of identification. This is why there
has been an increasing interest in identification and adaptive
control for stochastic systems from both theorists and
practitioners."
This book is the first to explore the issue of corporate governance
in China's new corporations. With rapid development over the last
two decades, China has seen compelling achievements in overseas
investment. Specifically, an increasing number of Chinese companies
have been "going out" to become multinational enterprises. From the
practical view, corporate governance issues have been identified in
the literature as one of the most important factors in determining
whether these Chinese multinational enterprises succeed or not.
However, existing literature provides little investigation and
understanding about corporate governance of Chinese multinational
enterprises. This book fills that gap and will be of value to
corporate executives, scholars of China's economy, and journalists.
Due to the great success and enormous impact of IP networks, In
ternet access (such as sending and receiving e-mails) and web brows
ing have become the ruling paradigm for next generation wireless
systems. On the other hand, great technological and commercial
success of services and applications is being witnessed in mobile
wire less communications with examples of cellular, pes voice
telephony and wireless LANs. The service paradigm has thus shifted
from the conventional voice service to seamlessly integrated high
quality mul timedia transmission over broadband wireless mobile
networks. The multimedia content may include data, voice, audio,
image, video and so on. With availability of more powerful portable
devices, such as PDA, portable computer and cellular phone, coupled
with the easier access to the core network (using a mobile device),
the number of mobile users and the demand for multimedia-based
applications is increasing rapidly. As a result, there is an urgent
need for a sys tem that supports heterogeneous multimedia services
and provides seamless access to the desired resources via wireless
connections. Therefore, the convergence of multimedia communication
and wireless mobile networking technologies into the next
generation wireless multimedia (WMM) networks with the vision of
"anytime, anywhere, anyform" information system is the certain
trend in the foreseeable future. However, successful combination of
these two technologies presents many challenges such as available
spectral bandwidth, energy efficiency, seamless end-to-end
communication, robustness, security, etc."
The noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), also known as noise and
vibration (N&V), is a critical feature for customers to assess
the performance and quality of vehicles. NVH characteristics are
higher among factors that customers use to judge the vehicle's
quality. This book sets out to introduce the basic concepts,
principles, and applications of the NVH development and refi nement
of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV),
and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles. Each type comes with its own set
of challenges.
This book is about the political economy of China's industrial
reform and the rise of a group of Chinese big businesses under the
Communist Party and the central state's control. It examines the
origins, evolution and institutional configuration of this
centralized system in governing the 'commanding heights' of the
Chinese industrial economy. Shaped by persistent industrial
policies to develop China's 'national champions' enterprises, the
core parts of China's central industrial ministries and mono-bank
system have been transformed into a 'national team' of giant modern
business firms in industries such as oil, power generation,
telecommunications, aerospace, aviation, nuclear, shipbuilding,
mining, construction, automobile and banking. Through an adaptive
process of learning, experimentation and restructuring, the bedrock
of the authority relations and control mechanisms among the Party,
government bureaucracy and firms has been consolidated rather than
dismantled in the system's transformation. This alternative view of
China's industrial reform presents a direct challenge to the
neo-liberal transition model of China's institutional development
and the mainstream Western conceptions of Chinese big business.

For many years, legislators around the world have responded to the
particular needs of consumers by introducing dedicated rules for
consumer sales contracts. In the European Union, a significant push
came through the adoption of the Consumer Sales Directive
(99/44/EC). Elsewhere in the world, legislation focusing on
consumer sales contracts has been introduced, for example in New
Zealand and Australia. This book offers a snapshot of the current
state of consumer sales law in a range of jurisdictions around the
globe. It provides both an overview of the law in selected
jurisdictions and compares the application of these rules in the
context of two case scenarios.

This book focuses on design technologies and practical engineering
applications in connection with cruise ports and terminals. After a
brief introduction to cruise ships and global cruise ports, it
addresses the location, structure and layout of cruise terminals,
the technologies involved, cruise terminal buildings and supporting
facilities. The book also explores practical engineering cases,
including projects that the authors have worked on, such as the
Shenzhen Prince Bay and Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise
Terminal projects. Systematically discussing the design and
engineering aspects of domestic and international cruise terminals,
the book offers a practical reference guide for engineers,

This book is the product of a unique collaboration between mainland
Chinese scholars and scholars from the civil, common, and mixed
jurisdiction legal traditions. It begins by placing the current
Chinese contract law (CCL) in the context of an evolutionary
process accelerated during China's transition to a market economy.
It is structured around the core areas of contract law,
anticipatory repudiation (common law) and defense of security
(German law); and remedies and damages, with a focus on the
availability of specific performance in Chinese law. The book also
offers a useful comparison between the CCL and the UNIDROIT
Principles of International Commercial Contracts, as well as the
Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. The
analysis in the book is undertaken at two levels - practical
application of the CCL and scholarly commentary.

Reviews the historical process of the financial system reform and
development of China. This book introduces the background,
implementation effect and experience of major events about the
central bank system, financial macro-control, foreign exchange
management and foreign exchange market, banking reform and
supervision, capital market, insurance market, financial
supervision and financial opening up and other financial areas. It
thus reveals the basic path of China's financial reform,
development and evolution, and explores China's path of financial
development and reform in line with the national conditions.
Through an in-depth study of more than 40 years of China's
financial system reform, this book explores the laws of monetary
and financial operation and development during the reform, the path
of which is roughly as follows: breakthrough of the financial
system's forbidden zone (restoration and separation of national
specialised banks; establishment of a central bank; opening of
financial markets; enterprisation of professional banks;
commercialisation of specialised banks; establishing an indirect
financial regulation system; strengthening and improving the
financial supervision system) hence, providing constructive advice
and reform proposals for the national macro policy-making
departments. 1. This book reviews the main history of the reform of
China's financial system and analyses the starting point,
objectives, sequence, characteristics, ways of advancing and the
logic behind the reform of the financial system. 2. This book
breaks down the traditional financial system and establishes, step
by step, a diversified financial system that meets the requirements
of the development of the socialist market economy. 3. This book
provides an overview of the development process of the major areas
of the financial industry and an outlook on the future direction of
the financial system reform, hoping to provide useful reference and
lessons for readers who interested in the financial undertakings of
China.

This SpringerBrief explains how to leverage mobile users' social
relationships to improve the interactions of mobile devices in
mobile networks. It develops a social group utility maximization
(SGUM) framework that captures diverse social ties of mobile users
and diverse physical coupling of mobile devices. Key topics include
random access control, power control, spectrum access, and location
privacy. This brief also investigates SGUM-based power control game
and random access control game, for which it establishes the
socially-aware Nash equilibrium (SNE). It then examines the
critical SGUM-based spectrum access game, and pseudonym change game
for personalized location privacy. The authors propose future work
on extending the SGUM framework to negative social ties, to
demonstrate relevance to security applications and span the
continuum between zero-sum game (ZSG) and non-cooperative game
(NCG). Social Group Utility Maximization targets researchers and
professionals working on mobile networks and social networks.
Advanced-level students in electrical engineering and computer
science will also find this material useful for their related
courses.
This Handbook examines disparities in public health by highlighting
recent theoretical and methodological advances in cultural
neuroscience. It traces the interactions of cultural, biological,
and environmental factors that create adverse physical and mental
health conditions among populations, and investigates how the
policies of cultural and governmental institutions influence such
outcomes. In addition to providing an overview of the current
research, chapters demonstrate how a cultural neuroscience approach
to the study of the mind, brain, and behavior can help stabilize
the quality of health of societies at large. The volume will appeal
especially to graduate students and professional scholars working
in psychology and population genetics. The Oxford Handbook of
Cultural Neuroscience represents the first collection of scholarly
contributions from the International Cultural Neuroscience
Consortium (ICNC), an interdisciplinary group of scholars from
epidemiology, anthropology, psychology, neuroscience, genetics, and
psychiatry dedicated to advancing an understanding of culture and
health using theory and methods from cultural neuroscience. The
Handbook is intended to introduce future generations of scholars to
foundations in cultural neuroscience, and to equip them to address
the grand challenges in global mental health in the twenty-first
century.
