This book presents the mathematics behind the formulation,
approximation, and numerical analysis of contact and friction
problems. It also provides a survey of recent developments in the
numerical approximation of such problems as well as several
remaining unsolved issues. Particular focus is placed on the
Signorini problem and on frictionless unilateral contact in small
strain. The final chapters cover more complex,
applications-oriented problems, such as frictional contact,
multi-body contact, and large strain. Finite Element Approximation
of Contact and Friction in Elasticity will be a valuable resource
for researchers in the area. It may also be of interest to those
studying scientific computing and computational mechanics.
Following the succesful publication of "Proteome and Protein
Analysis" in 2000, which was based on a former MPSA (Methods in
Protein Structure Analysis) conference, Methods in Proteome and
Protein Analysis presents the most interesting papers from the 14th
MPSA meeting.
Major topics include: protein and peptide sample preparation and
separation; new reagent for protein sequence analysis; mass
spectrometry in protein research; analysis of posttranslational
modification; protein-protein interaction using MALDI-MS;
manipulation of genome or functional compositon trap;
structure-function correlation study using optical biosensors of
microcolorimetrical techniques; structural proteomics as NMR or
fluorescence polarization study; the classification and prediction
of structure or functional sites; in silico analysis of proteins
and proteomes; increasing throughput and data quality for
proteomics.
This title features 15 original craft projects inspired by the
Minecraft video game sensation. Creepers, characters, tools and
blocks are fun to create now and play with later. It is suitable
for children aged eight and over. Bring your Minecraft adventure to
life with easy-to-make craft projects! Use this imaginative book to
create instantly recognisable toys, jewellery, wearables, and
accessories, based on one of the most popular video games of all
time. Author Choly Knight shows you how to quickly make real life
versions of all your favourite Minecraft characters and game
elements, using only a few basic craft supplies. The blocky
pixilated graphics of Minecraft are perfect for so many different
kinds of crafts. Inside you'll find 15 fun step-by-step projects
for perler beads, duct tape, paper crafting, painting, sewing, and
crocheting. So get in "creative mode" and celebrate the limitless
possibilities of Minecraft!
Pillows are one of the easiest items to sew, and one of the most
affordable ways to add a splash of color and personality to a room.
With twelve cute and cuddly animal pillows to make, and
easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions, seamstresses of all
skill levels will enjoy making them. It is so easy to create these
adorable pet pillows - all that's needed is a sewing machine, some
inexpensive fabric, and a few basic sewing tools. The hardest part
will be deciding which pillow to make first!
Pixel Craft with Perler Beads is a fun project book containing more
than 50 exciting design ideas for digital-inspired jewellery,
coasters, frames, boxes, toys and more, using fusible craft beads.
With no crafting experience necessary, you'll produce great results
in no time thanks to Choly Knight's clear directions and
step-by-photographs!Colourful, inexpensive beads from Perler(R),
Hama(R), or Artkal(R) are ideal for recreating the retro 8-bit era
of blocky video games. As well as learning the basics of assembling
and fusing beads, you'll also pick up useful tips on tools,
pegboards and adhesives.Making trendy pixelated wearables,
jewellery and decorations for your home has never been easier or
more enjoyable. Your creations will look as if they have just
stepped off a screen!
This is the perfect book for beginner sewers, with friendly and
easy-to-follow directions. Sew Me! Sewing Basics is geared towards
would-be sewers of all ages, who may never have touched a sewing
machine or even threaded a needle before. It's the perfect book for
anyone who wants to get started in the craft, or just needs a quick
refresher course in sewing. Choly Knight's friendly and
easy-to-follow directions will get readers sewing with confidence,
making repairs and creating new garments from scratch. She starts
at the very beginning, showing how to choose a sewing machine and
introducing the most basic techniques and shortcuts. From cutting
patterns and sewing seams, to binding edges, gathering fabric and
installing zippers, each new skill is accompanied by a quick
practice exercise to try, allowing readers to learn as they sew. 36
simple and straightforward projects are provided for sewing fun
accessories from plushies, pincushions and placemats to hand towels
and hats.
"Protein Structure Analysis - Preparation and Characterization" is
a compilation of practical approaches to the structural analysis of
proteins and peptides. Here, about 20 authors describe and comment
on techniques for sensitive protein purification and analysis.
These methods are used worldwide in biochemical and biotechnical
research currently being carried out in pharmaceu tical and
biomedical laboratories or protein sequencing facilities. The
chapters have been written by scientists with extensive ex perience
in these fields, and the practical parts are well documen ted so
that the reader should be able to easily reproduce the described
techniques. The methods compiled in this book were demonstrated in
student courses and in the EMBO Practical Course on "Microsequence
Analysis of Proteins" held in Berlin September 10-15, 1995. The
topics also derived from a FEBS Workshop, held in Halkidiki,
Thessaloniki, Greece, in April, 1995. Most of the authors
participated in these courses as lecturers and tutors and made
these courses extremely lively and successful. Since polypeptides
greatly vary depending on their specific structure and function,
strategies for their structural analysis must for the most part be
adapted to each individual protein. Therefore, advantages and
limitations of the experimen tal approaches are discussed here
critically, so that the reader becomes familiar with problems that
might be encountered."
The papers selected here cover new, sensitive and rapid methods for
the analysis of proteins, with special emphasis on the proteome. In
addition to the experimental details, the advantages and
limitations of the methodological approaches are discussed, and
topics include sequencing analysis, sample preparation, mass
spectrometry, NMR, analysis of post-translational modifications,
purification of recombinant proteins, protein-protein and
protein-DNA interactions, structure prediction, modeling and
folding, functional implications of domains and newly emerging
investigative methods, allowing analysis of the expression of
genes.
