Activity Recognition in Pervasive Intelligent Environments (Hardcover, 2011): Liming Chen, Chris D. Nugent, Jit Biswas, Jesse... Activity Recognition in Pervasive Intelligent Environments (Hardcover, 2011)
Liming Chen, Chris D. Nugent, Jit Biswas, Jesse Hoey
R2,721 Discovery Miles 27 210 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book consists of a number of chapters addressing different aspects of activity recognition, roughly in three main categories of topics. The first topic will be focused on activity modeling, representation and reasoning using mathematical models, knowledge representation formalisms and AI techniques. The second topic will concentrate on activity recognition methods and algorithms. Apart from traditional methods based on data mining and machine learning, we are particularly interested in novel approaches, such as the ontology-based approach, that facilitate data integration, sharing and automatic/automated processing. In the third topic we intend to cover novel architectures and frameworks for activity recognition, which are scalable and applicable to large scale distributed dynamic environments. In addition, this topic will also include the underpinning technological infrastructure, i.e. tools and APIs, that supports function/capability sharing and reuse, and rapid development and deployment of technological solutions. The fourth category of topic will be dedicated to representative applications of activity recognition in intelligent environments, which address the life cycle of activity recognition and their use for novel functions of the end-user systems with comprehensive implementation, prototyping and evaluation. This will include a wide range of application scenarios, such as smart homes, intelligent conference venues and cars.

Intelligent Patient Management (Hardcover, 2009 ed.): Sally McClean, Peter Millard, Elia El-Darzi, Chris D. Nugent Intelligent Patient Management (Hardcover, 2009 ed.)

Arguably medicine is either an arts-based science or a science-based art. In medieval times, clinical decisions were based on simple measures, such as the temperature of the body, the rhythm of the pulse, the consistency of the stool and the colour of the urine. Nowadays, thanks partly to modern technology, medical science has improved in many ways, as has healthcare. In particular, approaches which have their origins in Artificial Intelligence and Operational Research have a significant contribution to make in terms of improving not only diagnosis and treatment of patients, but also providing ways of managing patients in a more effective, more efficient, and more patient-friendly manner. This book focuses on the use of such Intelligent Patient Management to the benefit of clinicians, other healthcare and community practitioners and managers, patients and carers.

Supporting People with Dementia Using Pervasive Health Technologies (Hardcover, 2010 ed.): Maurice D. Mulvenna, Chris D. Nugent Supporting People with Dementia Using Pervasive Health Technologies (Hardcover, 2010 ed.)
Maurice D. Mulvenna, Chris D. Nugent
R4,141 Discovery Miles 41 410 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Information and communication technologies can provide new paradigms in healthcare provision. In particular, new Pervasive Healthcare technologies can revolutionise the dynamics of healthcare, enabling people to remain at home for longer, at lower costs to health and welfare organisations.

This book reveals how pervasive healthcare technologies can be designed in conjunction with users and carers, as well as exploring the application of novel methods and technologies.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Conference On Smart Homes and and Health Telematics, ICOST 2009, held in Tours, France, in July 2009. The 27 revised full papers and 20 short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on cognitive assistance and chronic diseases management; ambient living systems; service continuity and context awareness; user modeling and human-machine interaction; ambient intelligence modeling and privacy issues, human behavior and activities monitoring.

Designing Smart Homes - The Role of Artificial Intelligence (Paperback, 2006 ed.): Juan Carlos Augusto, Chris D. Nugent Designing Smart Homes - The Role of Artificial Intelligence (Paperback, 2006 ed.)

R1,408 Discovery Miles 14 080 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Smart homes are proving to be an emergent area which attracts the synergy of several areas of science. This volume offers a collection of contributions addressing how artificial intelligence (AI), one of the core areas of computer science, can bring the growing area of smart homes to a higher level of functionality where homes can truly realize the long standing dream of proactively helping their inhabitants in an intelligent way.
