The Bible has the astounding power to transform lives. The stories
of people like Francis of Assisi, Antony of Egypt, Augustine of
Hippo, Martin Luther and Martin Luther King Jr. vividly demonstrate
this. Why aren't more of us transformed by Scripture today? Too
often we study biblical texts without believing that God truly
inhabits this book. Scripture seeks to capture our minds, not
merely educate them. In these pages Chris Webb explains that we can
transform our Christian life by reading as lovers rather than as
theorists. This is possible by coming to the text prayerfully,
expectantly, in humility and empty-handed. When we open the Bible,
it does not say to us, "Listen: God is there " Instead, the voice
of the Spirit whispers through each line, "Look: I am here."
Reading the Bible this way can reconfigure the habits of your
heart, refresh your imagination and memory, reshape and redeem your
emotions, realign your reality individually and communally for
kingdom life, and take us beyond the Bible into a renewed way of
life. Here is the work of today--which is also the work of the
whole of life--to open your heart afresh to the living Word of God.
This sequel to 'Toy Story' sees pull-string cowboy Woody (voiced by
Tom Hanks) kidnapped by toy collector Al, who plans to sell him to
a Japanese toy museum. Assisted by Mr Potato Head, Slinky Dog and
Rex the Dinosaur, action figure Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) sets off
to the rescue, but when they get to Al's store Buzz is mistakenly
boxed up and his place taken by a new, flashier Lightyear model -
complete with utility belt! Meanwhile, Woody has discovered that he
was once the star of a popular children's television show, and is
no longer sure he wants to return to Andy's toy cupboard.
A number of books have been written on the death camp of Treblinka,
but The Treblinka Death Camp: History, Biographies, Remembrance is
unique. Webb and Chocolaty present the definitive account of one of
history's most infamous factories of death where approximately
800,000 people lost their lives. The Nazis who ran it, the
Ukrainian guards and maids, the Jewish survivors and the Poles
living in the camp's shadow -- every angle is covered in this
astonishingly comprehensive work. The book attempts to provide a
Roll of Remembrance with biographies of the Jews who perished in
the death camp as well as of those who escaped from Treblinka in
individual efforts or as part of the mass prisoner uprising on 2
August 1943. It also includes unique and previously unpublished
sketches of the camp's ramp area and gas chamber, drawn by the
survivors. For this second, revised edition, the authors
incorporated new information and provided sources for the Jewish
Roll of Remembrance. A significant number of new entries have been
added. The Roll of Remembrance has also been greatly expanded to
include the names of Jews deported from Germany to Treblinka. In
addition, more names have been added to the Perpetrators
biographies, and other entries have also been enhanced with
additional information.
This revised and updated version of Chris Webbs comprehensive 2016
book covers the development and history of the first death camp in
Poland within the Aktion Reinhardt mass murder program. Webb
outlines the construction of the death camp in Poland by the
National Socialists and provides a comprehensive account of who
built the death camp and how the mass murder was perfected by
Christian Wirth, the first Commandant, who was well versed in the
mass murder by gas, from his days in the T4 Organization. The
history of the death camp is retold with eyewitness testimony of
some of the Jewish survivors, the Poles who helped build the death
camp, and former SS members of the Garrison and German visitors to
the camp. The book includes an updated and revised Jewish Roll of
Remembrance, with sources provided to verify each entry. This
includes the handful of survivors as well as a comprehensive record
of the victims, Polish and Czech Jews, and those deported from the
Reich to Belzec. The book also provides a detailed record of the
leading figures of Aktion Reinhardt, including Odilo Globocnik,
Christian Wirth, and Hermann Hofle, and members of the SS Garrison
who served in Belzec. The biographies record their histories, what
they did at Belzec, and their fates, where known. Also covered are
the post-war testimonies, trials, and excavations. A number of
historic and contemporary photographs, some of which have never
been published before, and documents and drawings enhance this
edition.
"This book on the Auschwitz Concentration Camp provides a
chronological account from the camp's beginning in 1940 right up to
its liberation in January 1945, and beyond. Chris Webb manages to
find a balance between detailing the sufferings of the victims and
the actions, characters, and fates of the perpetrators. He gives,
in a concise form, a thorough and deeply disturbing overview of all
aspects of Auschwitz and its many satellite camps. In addition, the
book contains a vast collection of photographs and documents, some
of them never shown in public before. It ends with the 2017
recollections by students who visited Auschwitz from Teesside
University."
God's presence permeates our lives and activities, reverberating
throughout all he has created. As we open our lives to that
presence, we hear the truth of the gospel spoken to our hearts: the
kingdom of God has come to us. Chris Webb, an Anglican priest and
retreat house director, wants us all to enter into that kingdom and
to experience its freedom. Written with verve, depth, and
uncontainable joy, God-Soaked Life invites us to live in the
reality of God's presence in our everyday lives. It's an invitation
into the community of God's people, into fearless honesty about our
own weaknesses and failures, into the daily experience of God
through silence, Scripture and prayer, and into a new life of love
and service in the broken world around us. God's kingdom is not far
away, a remote and future promise. It is here, now.
