In this basic textbook, prospective architects, urban and landscape planners receive assistance in working on urban development projects and designs. This edition has been expanded by two chapters on informal urban planning and regional urban development. The contents presented and their preparation are based on the design process in practice and embed it in a theoretical framework of necessary background knowledge. As an introduction, an overview of the understanding of the city, of urban structures and the laws governing them is given. In order to make the multi-layered structure of the city more comprehensible, it is broken down into different layers and building blocks. The approach to urban design is described using the "layer method" in the form of successive phases. Examples of urban development projects and competitions illustrate the individual design steps.

Andean dry forest ecosystems are threatened by deforestation and unsustainable land use methods. The negative effects for the livelihood of the local population, biodiversity, and the regional climate could be countered by reforestation measures; however, dry land forests have not attracted the same level of interest and investment like other ecosystems. This book describes the development of a priority-zone map for reforestation measures, showing where reforestation might have the greatest social and ecological benefits. To achieve this, a problem analysis of a case study region is conducted and thematic reforestation benefits are determined. Using remote sensing and GIS, the areas where benefits can be obtained are mapped in individual layers and compiled into a summarizing priority-zone map. It is thus possible to identify areas where reforestation would achieve multiple benefits. The concept of priority maps could be used to facilitate reforestation strategies by local communities and municipal governments and could thus contribute to initiate an integrated forest and landscape restoration of the Bolivian montane dry forests.

Das Buch benennt die wichtigsten architektonischen und stadtebaulichen Veranderungen, die mit Corona in Stadt und Land einhergehen, stellt sie in den Kontext des Stadtumbaus durch den Klimawandel, verortet sie historisch und leitet daraus konkrete Strategien und Chancen ab, um den zentralen Zukunftsherausforderungen zu begegnen, die sich aus der Pandemie fur Stadt und Land ergeben.

Guter Wohnungsbau ist mehr als das einzelne Haus: Stadtebau, Verkehrsanbindung, Erreichbarkeit von infrastrukturellen Einrichtungen, Erschliessungssituation und die Ausformulierung und Gestaltung von Zwischenbereichen haben entscheidenden Einfluss auf die Wohnqualitat und das soziale Miteinander der Bewohner. Dabei ist eine Ausrichtung auf unterschiedliche Nachfragen und Bewohnergruppen notwendig. Diesem komplexen Anspruch wird die Publikation "Stadtbaustein Wohnen" gerecht, weil sie den Bogen spannt - von den historischen und bewahrten Wohnformen bis hin zu experimentellen Wohnmodellen und -typen. In einer anschaulichen Form werden Konzepte und Projekte dargestellt und in einen erweiterten raumlichen Kontext des naheren Wohnumfeldes oder auch des Quartiers gestellt.
