In this volume, the author presents a comprehensive account of Paul Tillich's theology. Starting from the concept of freedom, Tillich's theology is interpreted as a structural theory of the finite implementation of freedom. Within this perspective of the problem, its systematic structures and particular form of rationality are reconstructed, together with the historical background to the problem.

The volume contains ten historical theological studies tracing the significance of Luther for Protestant religious culture (mainly in the German-speaking world) since the Reformation. The approach taken is one of the history of reception: selected positions in modern Protestantism are identified as different forms of reception of Luther's theology.
