Nach jahrelanger Konsolidierung auch im europaischen Wirtschaftsraum ist vorerst noch kein Ende des Trends zum Wachstum durch Zusammenschlusse abzusehen. Immer wieder kann man den Tageszeitungen entsprechende Meldungen uber Fusionen und Akquisitionen - gerade auch unter den grossten Banken - entnehmen. Diese Umstande haben dazu gefuhrt, dass die Problematik des Themengebietes seit Jahrzehnten unter Einsatz verschiedenster methodischer Ansatze erforscht wird. Gerade die Unterschiedlichkeit der Herangehensweisen an die Problematik in den einzelnen Studien und die Weiterentwicklung der Methoden mit der Zeit hat aber dazu gefuhrt, dass der Vergleich der einzelnen Forschungsergebnisse dieser Studien sehr viel schwieriger geworden ist.
