The dawn of the Enlightenment saw heated debates on self-love. Do
people only act out of self-interest? Or is there a less
pessimistic explanation for human behaviour? Maurer delves into the
contributions to these debates from both famous and lesser known
authors, including Lord Shaftesbury, Bernard Mandeville, Francis
Hutcheson, Joseph Butler, Archibald Campbell, David Hume and Adam
Smith, and puts them in their philosophical, theological and
economic context. Maurer identifies five distinct conceptions of
self-love and looks at their role within theories of human
psychology and morality while drawing attention to the heuristic
limits of our contemporary notion of egoism. He compares the
central arguments and the different strategies intended to morally
rehabilitate human nature and self-love before and during the

Proceedings of the ISCONTOUR The aim of the International Student
Conference in Tourism Research (ISCONTOUR) is thus to offer
students a unique platform to present their research and to
establish a mutual knowledge transfer forum for attendees from
academia, industry, government and other organisations. The annual
conference, wich is jointly organised by the IMC University of
Applied Sciences Krems and the Salzburg University of Applied
Sciences, will take place alternatively at the locations Salzburg

Christian Maurer (University of Applied Sciences Krems). The target
audience include international students (also PhDs), graduates,
teachers and lecturers from the field of tourism and leisure
management as well as companies and anyone interested in the
conference topic areas. Issues to be covered at the conference

Der Roman beschreibt den Aufbruch des Helden zu einer Reise, die
Reise, den Aufenthalt und die Ruckkehr. Eine phantastisch
klingende, in Wahrheit aber reale Anzeige weckt in Professor
Orbasil, der kein echter Professor ist, den Wunsch nach einem
anderen Leben. In dem Roman mischt sich Realistisches und
Phantastisches. Ebenso wie der Held, dessen Perspektive das
Erzahlen nicht verlasst, zugleich sehr wirklich und gespenstisch
ist. Fast weiss man genau, was in der Aussenwelt geschieht und was
nur im Kopf des Helden vor sich geht. Am Ende scheint alles wie am
Anfang zu sein. Aber nicht ganz. Beinahe schliesst sich ein Kreis,
doch lasst die Linie eine Off
