We like to think of ourselves, our friends, and our families as
decent people. We may not be saints, but we are still honest,
relatively kind, and mostly trustworthy. Miller argues here that we
are badly mistaken in thinking this. Hundreds of recent studies in
psychology tell a different story: that we all have serious
character flaws that prevent us from being as good as we think we
are - and that we do not even recognize that these flaws exist. But
neither are most of us cruel or dishonest. Instead, Miller argues,
we are a mixed bag. On the one hand, most of us in a group of
bystanders will do nothing as someone cries out for help in an
emergency. Yet it is also true that there will be many times when
we will selflessly come to the aid of a complete stranger - and
resist the urge to lie, cheat, or steal even if we could get away
with it. Much depends on cues in our social environment. Miller
uses this recent psychological literature to explain what the
notion of "character" really means today, and how we can use this
new understanding to develop a character better in sync with the
kind of people we want to be.

She said she was raped.
Police said she lied.
She was made to retract the report – but the nightmare only got worse.
On 11 August 2008, eighteen-year-old Marie reported that a masked man
had broken into her home and raped her. Within days, police – and even
those closest to Marie – became suspicious of her story. Confronted by
these minor inconsistencies and doubt, Marie broke down and said her
story was a lie. The police charged her with making a false report.
Two years later, Colorado detective Stacy Galbraith was assigned to a
case of sexual assault. It bore an eerie resemblance to a rape that had
taken place months earlier in a nearby town. Joining forces with the
detective on that case, Edna Hendershot, the two soon discovered they
were dealing with a serial rapist. As their investigation deepened, it
became clear that numerous police departments had extremely similar
cases on their hands – and that Marie's story bore an eerie resemblance
to the cases they were investigating.
Unbelievable is a chilling tale of doubt, lies, and the hunt for
justice, unveiling the disturbing reality of how sexual assault is
investigated and the long history of scepticism toward its victims.
Movable Chord Workbook was written to give you the quickest path to
the most complete understanding of movable chords on the guitar.
You could spend a small fortune in tuition and rent, move to Boston
and go to a fancy private college and study guitar and music theory
for years to learn this stuff. I wrote it in an attempt to fill the
gaps in the information available to the student of creative guitar
who is seeking to tune-in to their own unique creative voices.
There is a lot of information here. Hopefully, the sheer volume of
all that's here will not overwhelm the mindful student. Instead, I
hope that you will keep a copy of this book around for years to
come and refer back to it every now and then to realize how much
the material here can transform your playing as the ideas take root
in your mind. I tried to make the smallest, yet most complete chord
book possible. Therefore, I omitted the instruction for the book to
a bare minimum. It is simply a movable chord workbook. There are
lots of chords books out there, but this one is simpler, leading to
more complete understanding. Use the book as a reference, to
complete your understanding, and especially application of movable
chords.

It was supposed to be quick and easy. The Bush Administration even
promised that it wouldn't cost American taxpayers a thing - Iraqi
oil revenues would pay for it all. But billions and billions of
dollars and thousands of lives later, the Iraqi reconstruction is
an undeniable failure. Iraq pumps out less oil now than it did
under Saddam. At best, Iraqis average all of twelve hours a day of
electricity. American soldiers lack body armour and adequate
protection for their motor vehicles. Increasingly worse off, Iraqis
turn against us. Increasingly worse off, our troops are killed by a
strengthening insurgency. As T. Christian Miller reveals in this
searing and timely book, the Bush Administration has fatally
undermined the war effort and our soldiers by handing out mountains
of cash not to the best companies for the reconstruction effort,
but to buddies, cronies, relatives and political hacks - some of
whom have simply taken the money and run with it.
