Prenatal diagnosis, especially noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT), has changed the experience of pregnancy, prenatal care and responsibilities in Israel and Germany in different ways. These differences reflect the countries' historical legacies, medico-legal policies, normative and cultural identities. Building on this observation, the contributors of this book present conversations between leading scholars from Israel and Germany based on an empirical bioethical perspective, analyses about the reshaping of 'life' by biomedicine, and philosophical reflections on socio-cultural claims and epistemic horizons of responsibilities. Practices and discussions of reproductive medicine transform the concepts of responsibility and irresponsibility.

Der Begriff der Orientierung ist sowohl in politischen Debatten als auch in philosophischen und ethischen Kontexten allgegenwartig. Auch von der Friedensdenkschrift der EKD wird Orientierung zu aktuellen Fragen von Gewalt, Krieg und Frieden eingefordert; diese bisweilen auch enttauscht. Dabei lasst sich die ethische Grundfrage "Was soll ich tun?", die sich auch fur die Friedensethik stellt, zweifelsohne als eine Frage nach Handlungsorientierung verstehen. Aber lasst sich allein schon durch eine ethische Normenreflexion Orientierungswissen generieren? Der Band untersucht anthropologische, psychologische, rechtliche und ethische Probleme des Willenskonzepts. Die Medizin fuhrt Menschen in Grenzsituationen, in denen "ihr Wille" in vielerlei Hinsichten problematisch wird: Kinder sollen in die Durchfuhrung medizinischer Massnahmen einwilligen; Menschen mit Demenz koennen sich zu Therapien manchmal nicht mehr klar aussern; potentielle Teilnehmende einer klinischen Studie sind durch deren Komplexitat uberfordert, sollen aber zustimmen. Der Band fokussiert bewusst Randzonen, in denen nicht klar ist, was ein Wille ist und ob eine Willensausserung vorliegt. An diesen Randbereichen wird besser als in thematischen Kernzonen sichtbar, was Idee und Praxis des Willens leisten und was sie verdecken. Daraus ergeben sich neue Fragen zur Problematik des Entscheidens und der Einwilligung in Grenzsituationen.

Wie gefahrdet demokratische Prozesse sind, wurde im Blick auf die soziopolitischen Entwicklungen der letzten Jahre deutlich. Die Autorin nimmt diese Diagnose ernst und erinnert im Horizont Kritischer Theorie an die Ermoeglichungsbedingungen egalitarer Vergesellschaftung. Die problemsensible Rekonstruktion dieser Bedingungen verbindet sich dabei mit der Analyse quantitativ und qualitativ auffalliger Phanomene in der Lebenswelt. Unter feministischen Vorzeichen legt die Autorin den Fokus auf Prasenz und Konsum von Mainstream-Pornographie und die Frage nach der Realitat von Geschlechteregalitat. In diesem Zusammenhang untersucht sie die potentielle Interdependenz von pornographischen Narrativen, der Habitualisierung anerkennungsvergessener Einstellungen und der Veroedung kommunikativer Praxis.

Die Unterscheidung von theoretischer Ethik und angewandter Ethik ist als Antwort auf voellig neue Handlungsoptionen und Entscheidungsdilemmata zu betrachten, die im Zuge des wissenschaftlich-technischen Fortschritts seit der zweiten Halfte des 20. Jahrhunderts entstanden. Die im Zusammenhang mit dieser Entwicklung auftretenden ethischen Fragen bzw. Probleme erfordern neuartige Loesungsstrategien. Diese koennen nicht mehr ohne weiteres aus den uberlieferten moralischen Prinzipien der traditionellen Moralphilosophie abgeleitet werden. Aus diesem Grunde entstehen neue Herausforderungen fur die Philosophie, denen sich die Autoren dieses Sammelbandes gestellt haben. In den Aufsatzen wird zum einen gezeigt, dass sich dem berechtigten Praktischwerden der Ethik als praktischer Philosophie auch andere Formen Praktizierender Philosophie zuordnen, wie etwa der Bereich der Lebenskunst oder der einer Philosophischen Praxis, zum anderen zeigen die verschiedenen Arbeiten aber auch, dass bei all dem nicht ubersehen werden darf, dass angewandte Ethik keine Sonderethik ist, die unabhangig von der allgemeinen philosophischen Ethik betrieben werden kann.
