At the turn of the century, strangely gifted humans encounter
unbelievable experiences-and a scientist begins building an army of
cybernetic organisms as the foundation of his planned empire.
In a world exactly like ours, a species of extraordinary humans
exists. They are called Anomalies; they evolved from Gods and
possess amazing gifts. For countless millennia, Anomalies and Gods
have lived peacefully alongside humans. But as the twentieth
century arrives, all of that is about to change.
At the turn of the century, some Anomalies have grown tired of
hiding in the shadows; in response, the government, armed with
knowledge of the other species, creates organizations to deal with
terroristic threats the Anomalies pose.
Several decades later, Russian scientist Dimitri Gustav,
building on Hitler's ideas, begins a campaign of world domination
through science and technology. By the beginning of the
twenty-first century, he has created numerous cybernetic organisms
and genetically engineered creatures. He begins to form his own
army, intent on building an empire.
Now, as a series of events begins to unravel, new enemies arise,
threatening the anonymity and balance of society the government has
accomplished-and possibly preparing to cause a revelation and
expose a secret that has been so desperately hidden.
First published in 1984. This book represents a major study of
union responses to the economic crisis of the 1970s and 1980s.
Abjuring governmental or managerial outlooks, it argues that
unions, as representatives of essential producer groups, would be
central to the renegotiation of the economic world. The work also
stresses the importance of situating union responses to the crisis
within the socio-historical evolution of their political economies
during the rise and decline of the post-war economic boom. The
Social Democratic affiliation of unions in Britain, West Germany
and Sweden make them particularly comparable. This title will be of
interest to students of politics and economics.

Scholars from all over the world contributed to the Festschrift
volumes presented as a tribute to Thomas Hodgkin on his sixtieth
birthday. This book contains a selection from those contributions,
reflecting the wide scope of Hodgkin's own interests, work and
influence in the field of African and Tiers Monde studies. All the
contributions represent original and previously unpublished work in
the fields of African history, Islamic studies and the sociology of
religion, and also of contemporary political and economic studies.
They are particularly concerned to examine questions of a general
and theoretical importance, often by means of detailed case
studies. Among the countries thus discussed are Ghana, Guinea,
Nigeria, Senegal, Guine Bissao, Zambia, Ivory Coast, Tanzania,
Gambia - and, as part of the African diaspora, Jamaica. Fittingly,
these essays share one of the main features which have
distinguished Thomas Hodgkin's own work - they take a critically
evaluative view of some of the established interpretations and
conventional wisdoms surrounding their subjects. This book will
provide an introduction in depth to the whole field of African
studies as well as being essential material for specialists in many
disciplines.
