Sunday Times bestselling author Christopher Berry-Dee is the man
who talks to serial killers. A world-renowned investigative
criminologist, he has gained the trust of murderers across the
world, entered their high security prisons, and discussed in detail
their shocking crimes. Berry-Dee now delves into the mind of
perhaps the most sadistic and psychopathic killer of all time.
Between 1978 and 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer murdered and dismembered
seventeen boys and men. But he is most notorious for what happened
to his victims after their grisly deaths and the shocking depravity
that led to Dahmer being dubbed the 'Milwaukee Cannibal'. Using his
long experience and psychological expertise, Berry-Dee seeks to
understand the motivation, the amoral urges and the merciless
horror behind Dahmer's inhuman behaviour: what could make a man do
this?
Letters from Serial Killers is a unique study of the criminal mind
based on the author's extensive correspondence with convicted
serial murderers. Such a collection is extremely rare, and among
the killers whose correspondence is examined are: Arthur John
Shawcross, aka 'The Genesee River Killer'; Phillip Carl Jablonski,
aka 'The Death Row Teddy'; Melanie Lyn McGuire, aka 'The Ice
Queen'; Harvey 'The Hammer' Louis Carignan, aka 'The Want-ad
Killer'; Ian Stewart Brady, aka 'The Moors Murderer'; Hal Karen and
Ronald 'Butch' Joseph DeFeo Jr, aka 'The Amityville Horror'; Gary

'The Slavemaster' Letters from Serial Killers is Christopher
Berry-Dee at his steeliest best - exploring the downright creepy
correspondence with murderers, serial killers and psychopaths
behind bars, with exclusive scans of letters and eerily decorated
envelopes. A must-have for fans of the series, based on a
collection that will eventually be bequeathed to the FBI's
Behavioral Analysis Unit at its headquarters at Quantico, Virginia.
Christopher Berry-Dee, criminologist and bestselling author of
books about the serial killers Aileen Wuornos and Joanne Dennehy,
turns his uncompromising gaze upon women who not only kill, but
kill repeatedly. Because female murderers, and especially serial
murderers, are so rare compared with their male counterparts, this
new study will surprise as well as shock, particularly in the cases
of women like Beverley Allitt, who kill children, and Janie Lou
Gibbs, who killed her three sons and a grandson, as well as her
husband. Here too are women who kill under the influence of their
male partners, such as Myra Hindley and Rosemary West, and whose
lack of remorse for their actions is nothing short of chilling. But
the author also turns his forensic gaze on female killers who were
themselves victims, like Aileen Wuornos, whose killing spree, for
which she was executed, can be traced directly to her treatment at
the hands of men. Christopher Berry-Dee has no equal as the author
of hard-hitting studies of the killers who often walk among us
undetected for many years, and who in so many cases seem to be
acting entirely against their natures.
Featuring an introduction from the UK's bestselling true-crime
author, Christopher Berry-Dee. Shaun Attwood is the man who talks
to gangsters, drug lords and mafia bosses. Infamously known for his
time as the head of an international ecstasy ring in Arizona, Shaun
has since turned to gaining the trust of some of the world's most
dangerous people, interviewing and questioning them about their
stories. Collated from the many hours of interview material, and
containing additional content exclusive to the book, Shaun brings
together ten powerful conversations with the most gruesome and
deadly gangsters of recent years. Filled with truthful, brutal, and
often redemptive stories, Shaun's interviews feature international
smugglers, mafia enforcers and a man who escaped from Thailand's
most notorious prison. Sitdowns with Gangsters is an unputdownable
read that offers a glimpse into the lives and inner workings of
some of the world's most fearsome gangsters.
What is said can be understood only when seen in the context of
what is not said. Many ancient and medieval philosophers use this
dynamic of presence and absence. Plato always recognizes that his
expressions are energized by being set before other people.
Aristotle's dialectic between different sorts of public activity
does the same. Anselm sees his writing as a test case for what it
says. Bonaventure approximates his distance from trinity by finding
its images at large. Aquinas makes legal norms approach the
flexibility of facts. Ockham's solution to holding goods without
owning them impresses English jural doctrine. Las Casas' refusal to
fix first nations' identity in deviant past activities hints at how
to rectify contacts with first peoples today. This book shows how
each author amplifies meaning in the distance between what he puts
into his work and what he leaves unsaid.
The Man Who Talks to Serial Killers World-renowned investigative
criminologist Christopher Berry-Dee has gained the trust of
infamous serial killers throughout the world, entering their prison
cells to discuss their horrific crimes and alarming lack of
remorse. With over twenty-five years and hundreds of hours of audio
and video interviews, he collects ten chilling true crime stories
from the murderers themselves, describing some of the worst crimes
known. Within these pages, hear from the most notorious murderers
such as American serial killer Harvey Louis Carignan, who murdered
two women in the early 1970s, and Mary Bundy "The Sunset Slayer"
who was convicted of killing several young prostitutes and runaways
in Los Angeles in the 1980s. Berry-Dee not only shares their
stories in their words but also describes how to investigate their
criminal minds. It's time to step into the visitation room, turn on
your inquisitive mind, and delve into Talking with Serial Killers,
the beginning of Berry-Dee's bestselling true crime series.
What is it like to write letters to a serial killer? What tactics
does an investigator use to get an interview with a monster? What
do these killers, locked behind bars, have to say? See for
yourself? Talking with Psychopaths: Letters from Serial Killers is
the unique study of criminals in their own words based on
bestselling true crime author and criminologist Christopher
Berry-Dee's extensive interviews with convicted serial murderers.
Step inside the mind of The Genesee River Killer, The Death Row
Teddy, The Ice Queen, The Want-ad Killer, The Moors Murderer, The
Amityville Horror, The I-95 Killer, and more. This rare collection
has Berry-Dee at his steeliest best, exploring the downright creepy
correspondence with murderers, serial killers, and psychopaths,
with exclusive scans of letters and eerily decorated envelopes. A
must-have for fans of the Talking with Serial Killers and Talking
with Psychopaths series, a collection that will be bequeathed to
the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit at its headquarters in Quantico,

Bestselling author Christopher Berry-Dee returns with a companion
volume that delves even deeper into the evil world of psychopaths
and their hideous crimes. In Talking with Psychopaths: Beyond Evil,
criminologist Berry-Dee combines sections on killers whom he has
known, interviewed, or corresponded with, with studies of
psychopathic serial killers from the past, including Peter Kurten,
the Dusseldorf Monster; John Christie, a murderer and necrophile;
and Neville Heath, a ladykiller in every sense of the word. The
result is a chilling narrative that sets the forensic examination
of killers and their crimes within the context of murder in the
20th and 21st centuries, and the insoluble problem of identifying
these psychopaths. This is not a book for the squeamish but is
undeniably fascinating in its portrayal of just what one human
being will do to another--while all too often moving among us
unnoticed and unhindered. If their crimes seem as incomprehensible
as they are horrific, it is undeniably true that the world's most
wicked killers may be much closer than we think.

Long considered ground zero for global climate change in the United
States, Florida presents the perfect case study for disaster risk
and prevention. Building on the idea that disasters are produced by
historical and contemporary social processes as well as natural
phenomena, Amanda D. Concha-Holmes and Anthony Oliver-Smith present
a collection of ethnographic case studies that examine the social
and environmental effects of Florida’s public and private sector
development policies. Contributors to Disasters in Paradise explore
how these practices have increased the vulnerability of Floridians
to hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, droughts, frosts, and forest
fires.
Leading crime expert Christopher Berry-Dee gained the trust of some
of the most infamous convicted killers, having corresponded with
them and even entered their prison lairs to discuss their horrific
crimes in detail. In this book, he presents six unforgettable
prisoners and allows them to tell their stories, as well as giving
the details and background of their terrifying cases - making this
a must-read for aficionados of the genre and anyone fascinated by
the extremes of human behaviour. Beyond the headlines, once the
drama of the courtroom has subsided and the prison gates have been
locked behind these killers for good, Talking With Serial Killers:
Dead Men Talking allows the reader to get up close and personal
with torturers, sexual psychopaths and mass murderers, to read the
stories that are rarely heard and get the last word from some of
the world's most pitiless killers.
By an expert with over twenty-five years' experience interviewing
more than thirty of the most dangerous male and female serial
killers of contemporary times, this latest book from the
bestselling author explores the darkest corners of these
thrill-killers' minds. As all law-enforcement authorities,
including the FBI's elite Behavioral Science Unit, will confirm,
the majority of sexual psychopaths gain most of their perverse
thrills from the stalking of their unsuspecting victims, often in
so many different ways. For them, the actual kill is frequently
something less, after which the dead body is treated like so much
garbage and simply abandoned or thrown away. Yet as these cases
show, a victim has often been unwittingly followed, watched, or
even visited before they are attacked, sometimes for weeks or even
months. Having exhaustively studied the case histories of more than
sixty modern-day sexually motivated serial murderers - some still
alive, others subsequently executed - the author zeros in on the
Internet porn industry as one of the main motivating drivers in
cultivating fantasy stalking, which can lead to rape, multiple
rapes, and homicide graduating to serial murder. Even more
chillingly, anyone who is active on social media is a potential
stalker's victim.
Christopher Berry-Dee is back. In Talking With Serial Killers:
World's Most Evil, the bestselling author delves deeper still into
the gloomy underworld of killers and their crimes. He examines,
with shocking detail and clarity, the lives and lies of people who
have killed, and shines a light on the motives behind their
horrific crimes. Through interviews with the killers, the police
and key members of the prosecution, alongside careful analysis of
the cases themselves, the reader is given unprecedented insight
into the most diabolical minds that humanity has to offer.
Extending its sweep from lonesome outsiders to upstanding members
of the community, Talking With Serial Killers: World's Most Evil
shows that the world's most monstrous killers may be far closer
than you think. . .

including Peter Kürten, the 'Düsseldorf Monster'; John Christie,
responsible for the killings at 10 Rillington Place; and Neville Heath,
a ladykiller in every sense of the word.

But no matter how many people they have killed, no matter how many
lives they have ruined and whatever the nature of their sickening
crimes, serial killers are still human. Analysing the early years
of the lives of men like Jeffrey Dahmer, who abused and killed 17
young men, offers a fascinating insight into the effects of a
dysfunctional or abusive childhood. Criminologists Christopher
Berry-Dee and Steven Morris have spoken and corresponded with
killers all over the world in a quest to discover what made them
the way they are. For the first time, the inner workings of the
minds of the most destructive individuals on the planet are
revealed in shocking detail. Born Killers shows, through a
sophisticated system of psychological profiling, how the potential
serial killer develops. Read it and you too may be able to spot the
signs...
Bestselling writer and criminologist Christopher Berry-Dee turns
his attention to a new kind of victim: the wives or partners of
serial murderers who remained unaware of exactly who they had
fallen for until after their other half's arrest or, in some cases,
conviction, for multiple murders. Sonia Sutcliffe first discovered
that her husband, Peter, was leading a secret existence as 'the
Yorkshire Ripper' only when he was arrested. The wife of the
'Hillside Strangler' only learned of her husband's crimes when
state police smashed down her door in search of him. On finding out
the truth, these innocents often experience a strange kind of guilt
for not having recognised the killer in their home, as well as
having to face the grim reality of betrayal and deceit. Christopher
Berry-Dee speaks directly to killers and their oblivious loved ones
to get inside the minds of the men and women who fall for
murderers.
A natural subject for the UK's bestselling true-crime author: a
study of people who randomly kill large numbers of others (spree
killers), or who set out to do so in specific places or situations
(mass killers). Because of the ease of obtaining firearms in the
USA, many of these, inevitably, are American, but there have been
other recent examples in New Zealand and Norway, while three major
mass shootings took place in the UK at Hungerford in 1987 (17 dead,
including the killer), Dunblane in 1996 (18, including the killer),
and in Cumbria in 2010 (13, including the killer). As such killings
become more frequent, it is easy to blame them on the ready
availability of firearms and weak or non-existent background
checks, even though many countries, including the UK, have
extremely robust firearms legislation. What is more difficult to
establish, however, is the motivation behind such killings: some
are occasioned by grievance, real or imagined, while others have
their origins in a sense of failure or feelings of inadequacy.
Other killers, however, seem to be driven by a desire for power
over their fellow humans, often coupled with an overriding contempt
for the lives of others. In search of answers to the questions
raised, Christopher Berry-Dee offers case studies in some of the
most infamous mass killings of the past fifty years, from school
massacres to workplace killings, hate crimes to familicides. In
doing so he demonstrates, chillingly, that such murders are almost
impossible to predict, and therefore almost impossible to prevent.
A collection of essays dealing with the history of the Scottish
Enlightenment, its connection with the European Enlightenment in
general, such major figures as Francis Hutcheson, Thomas Reid, and
David Hume, and the making of theScottish identity. A collection of
ten specially commissioned essays addressing five themes central to
any study of the Scottish Enlightenment: one, the place [both
physical and cognitive] of science and medicine in the Scottish
Enlightenment; two,the institutionalization of enlightenment in the
universities; three, the cultivation of the different branches of
"the science of man" in the Scottish Enlightenment; four, the
national and international contexts of enlightenmentthought in
Scotland; and five, the historiography of the Scottish
Enlightenment. Taking up these themes, the editor and contributors
explore facets of enlightened culture in Scotland which have not
been given their due in the literature, and reassess current
interpretations of various aspects of the Scottish Enlightenment
specifically and its relation to the European Enlightenment in
general. Special emphasis is given to such major Scottish
thinkersas Francis Hutcheson, George Campbell, Thomas Reid, and
David Hume.
Aileen Wuornos was executed in Florida, on the 9th of October, 2002
at the age of 46. She was the 10th woman to be sentenced to death
in the USA since the death penalty resumed in 1976. Convicted for
the murder of six men, in a two month period, Aileen claimed she
acted in self defence however the investigation into these claims
was poor and she later retracted her statement announcing to the
Supreme Court, "I'm one who seriously hates human life and would
kill again." All-too-often female prostitutes have been the victims
of male serial killers - the killings of Aileen 'Lee' Wuornos were
the inverse of this. She was a child prostitute, fleeing an abusive
childhood at the hands of her grandparents, which led straight into
a disastrous adulthood of difficult affairs with both men and
women. Her metamorphosis from victim to attacker had brutal
consequences: a stream of dead men. Following a renewed interest in
this woman after the film "Monster", this is her story in her own
words.
In "China on Screen," Chris Berry and Mary Farquhar, leaders in
the field of Chinese film studies, explore more than one hundred
years of Chinese cinema and nation. Providing new perspectives on
key movements, themes, and filmmakers, Berry and Farquhar analyze
the films of a variety of directors and actors, including Chen
Kaige, Zhang Yimou, Hou Hsiao Hsien, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Maggie
Cheung, Gong Li, Wong Kar-wai, and Ang Lee. They argue for the
abandonment of "national cinema" as an analytic tool and propose
"cinema and the national" as a more productive framework. With this
approach, they show how movies from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and
the Chinese diaspora construct and contest different ideas of
Chinese nation -- as empire, republic, or ethnicity, and
complicated by gender, class, style, transnationalism, and more.
Among the issues and themes covered are the tension between
operatic and realist modes, male and female star images,
transnational production and circulation of Chinese films, the
image of the good foreigner -- all related to different ways of
imagining nation. Comprehensive and provocative, "China on Screen"
is a crucial work of film analysis.
