As a young boy and girl struggle with the idea of having to go to
sleep, they get interrupted by the moon who questions their desire
to stay up. The moon tells them that by going to sleep they will
get to do lots of fun things, such as saving the world from a gang
of nose-picking space zombies, or drinking from a cream-soda
flavored river and riding in air bubbles from a pink underwater
elephant. However, before the moon can finish, he notices their
dreaming adventures have already begun.
The book follows a young boy as he humorously goes through the
various steps that are needed to sneak a monster into school.
"You've all heard the tale. Young princess has an evil Queen of a
stepmother. Young princess is truly beautiful, the fairest of them
all. Evil Queen gets jealous. She wants her out of the picture.
Etc, etc, etc. The story is all wrong. Or at least, most of it is
wrong. Like all stories, it's been told over and over again, far
and wide. And of course, the details change. They're lost in
translation. This is what really happened." Emily and the Seven
Dwarfs is a postmodern retelling of Snow White in an approach
similar to Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber. Darker than the
Disneyisation, Emily and the Seven Dwarfs explores the original
tale steeped in the lore created through all the different versions
of Snow White to create this, the ultimate version.
Two years after a botched hostage rescue, Raijin and Astrid - the
world's only superheroes - reform their shattered partnership in
order to stop the mysterious and murderous Masquerade, who
threatens the life of the very same scientist they saved years
prior. Things get a little more difficult when their confrontation
ends with Raijin being thrown through time and space, offering him
the chance to change the timeline to fix the present and stop the
rise of the world's first supervillain. Not to mention having the
opportunity to alter the events of the fateful night that caused
the two heroes to split. But will it be enough? Or is time travel a
little more complicated than that? Cause and Effect is the second
book from Christopher Francis and it offers a science-fiction
superhero tale like you've never seen before. Cleverly constructed,
comedic, and made with a love of comic book lore, Cause and Effect
is a superpowered Groundhog Day you don't want to miss.
"It was a dot in an edgeless universe that stretched to infinity.
Yet with all that considered, I still wouldn't want to be anywhere
else." One boring summer in a boring little town, Alexander Taylor
makes an attempt to avoid going stir-crazy by taking a walk to the
local cinema. Little does he know that he'll meet Scarlett
Stevenson, an enigmatic redhead that captivates Alex and puts him
on an emotional journey that will lead him through science-fiction
TV shows, eccentric Swedish performances of Shakespeare, and
existential cheeseburgers. Backwards From Infinity is a
coming-of-age tale about friendships, relationships, and reflecting
on the idea that not all that glitters is gold.
