Challenges in Geometry - for Mathematical Olympians Past and Present (Hardcover, New): Christopher J. Bradley Challenges in Geometry - for Mathematical Olympians Past and Present (Hardcover, New)
Christopher J. Bradley
R5,652 R5,096 Discovery Miles 50 960 Save R556 (10%) Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Competition for High School students, and is held annually in a different country. More than eighty countries are involved.
Containing numerous exercises, illustrations, hints and solutions, presented in a lucid and thought- provoking style, this text provides a wide range of skills required in competitions such as the Mathematical Olympiad.
More than fifty problems in Euclidean geometry invo9lving integers and rational numbers are presented. Early chapters cover elementary problems while later sections break new ground in certain areas and area greater challenge for the more adventurous reader. The text is ideal for Mathematical
Olympiad training and also serves as a supplementary text for student in pure mathematics, particularly number theory and geometry.
Dr. Christopher Bradley was formerly a Fellow and Tutor in Mathematics at Jesus College, Oxford, Deputy Leader of the British Mathematical Olympiad Team and for several years Secretary of the British Mathematical Olympiad Committee.

The Calibration of Bistatic Radar Cross Section Measurements (Paperback): Christopher J. Bradley The Calibration of Bistatic Radar Cross Section Measurements (Paperback)

Recent advances in signal processing and remote sensing have highlighted the importance of bistatic radar systems for the purposes of environmental monitoring, surveillance, and tracking radar. The calibration of such systems has been problematic much more so than similar monostatic systems, primarily as a result of the lack of reference objects suitable for calibrating at any given bistatic angle. This research deals with the problems of calibrating full-polarimetric laboratory-environment bistatic radar systems, including the lack of suitable calibration targets and procedures, and operational considerations such as alignment and mounting. Several popular bistatic calibration techniques are classified, evaluated, and comparisons are made between the relative merits of various calibration objects. The analysis addresses sensitivity to target alignment error, sensitivity to polarization impurity, and ease of implementation. Both theoretical concepts and practical considerations are discussed, based on measurements accomplished at the European Microwave Signature Laboratory (EMSL) of the Joint Research Center (JRC) in Ispra, Italy. Significant gains in co-polarized channel accuracy and cross-polarization purity are realized with calibrations that utilize the complete system distortion model, and these conclusions are discussed in detail.

This book is a 3: 00 O'Clock High collection of poetry. It is intended to be a sort of stand against the things that are wrong, while at the same time reflecting back at what has made the journey up until 2004 worthwhile.Being that it is now 2008, I can say a whole lot of things have happened. But as with all good things, a fair recording of them will take time. And so I present for you this third work, including liner notes, and prose never before published publicly in the conclusion of this collection for the Apex of my poetic career. You might ask how any artist can judge when his Apex is. Personally, I don't think it can get any better than right now, but there is always tomorrow.
