Policy making is more globally connected today than ever before.
Policy ideas, experiences and expertise circulate rapidly over
great distances. But who is involved in distributing policy, how do
they do it, and through which arenas? This book examines the work
involved in policy circulation, and as the first genuinely
transdisciplinary collection on policy circulation, it offers an
insight into the globally dispersed yet interconnected nature of
contemporary policy making and the transdisciplinary future of
policy circulation studies. Bringing together international
scholars and multidisciplinary perspectives, this book showcases
theoretical approaches from across the social sciences, and offers
empirical perspectives from around the world. Synthesizing related
literatures on policy transfer, diffusion and mobility, and
assessing their differences and commonalities, this book proposes
ways to foster transdisciplinary dialogue. Including a range of
case studies, from both the Global North and South, Public Policy
Circulation provides a succinct understanding and critique of the
Global policy transfer, diffusion and mobility through the lens of
arenas, agents and actions. This book will be a vital tool for
academics and students of political science, public policy, public
administration, international relations, geography, urban studies,
sociology and anthropology alike, with its up-to-date coverage of
contemporary policy circulation, and developments in the theory of
global policy movement and adoption. It will also be of interest to
practitioners in government agencies and NGOs, providing insight
into their increasing role in both the national and international
transfer and dispersal of policies. Contributors include: T. Baker,
M.I. Dussauge-Laguna, R. Jolkkonen, O. Loeblova, P. McGuirk, S.

Public Policy Transfer highlights how local adaptations and
innovations contribute to ongoing policy development, as domestic
policy-making activity becomes increasingly engaged with global
networks. This work draws together various disciplinary
perspectives that dominate the study of policy transfer, which have
otherwise remained separate and distinct. This is the first book to
analyze comparatively the micro-dynamics of transfer across
regions, contrasting policy fields and multiple levels of
governance. With authors from a wide range of disciplines such as
law, development and policy studies, and various cases from Europe,
Africa, Australia and South America, this book breaks new ground
both theoretically and empirically. Unique to this work are the
case studies examining policy transfer across countries within the
Global North and Global South. This yields in-depth exploration of
challenges and characteristics of transfer across emerging
economies. Rooted in original research by policy specialists, this
book provides fresh and arresting insights into the micro-dynamics
as well as the macro-effects of policy transfer. Offering the
richest comparative analysis of policy transfer to date, this book
has global appeal to academics and students of public policy. The
diverse range of case studies will make this book invaluable to
policy practitioners and public officials. Contributors include: R.

The international workshop on which this proceedings volume is
based on brought together leading researchers in the field of
elliptic and parabolic equations. Particular emphasis was put on
the interaction between well-established scientists and emerging
young mathematicians, as well as on exploring new connections
between pure and applied mathematics. The volume contains material
derived after the workshop taking up the impetus to continue
collaboration and to incorporate additional new results and
insights.
Explores how authoritarian regimes are deploying "sharp power" to
undermine democracies from within by weaponizing universities,
institutions, media, technology, and entertainment industries. The
world's dictators are no longer content with shoring up control
over their own populations—they are now exploiting the openness
of the free world to spread disinformation, sow discord, and
suppress dissent. In Defending Democracy in an Age of Sharp Power,
editors William J. Dobson, Tarek Masoud, and Christopher Walker
bring together leading analysts to explain how the world's
authoritarians are attempting to erode the pillars of democratic
societies—and what we can do about it. Popular media,
entertainment industries, universities, the tech world, and even
critical political institutions are being manipulated by dictators
who advance their regimes' interests by weakening democracies from
within. Autocrats' use of "sharp power" constitutes one of the
gravest threats to liberal, representative government today. The
optimistic, early twenty-first-century narrative of how
globalization, the spread of the internet, and the rise of social
media would lead to liberalization everywhere is now giving way to
the realization that these same forces provide inroads to those
wishing to snuff out democracy at the source. And while autocrats
can do much to wall their societies off from democratic and liberal
influences, free societies have not yet fully grasped how they can
resist the threat of sharp power while preserving their fundamental
openness and freedom. Far from offering a counsel of despair, the
international contributors in this collection identify the
considerable resources that democracy provides for blunting sharp
power's edge. With careful case studies of successful resistance
efforts in such countries as Australia, the Czech Republic, and
Taiwan, this book offers an urgent message for anyone concerned
with the defense of democracy in the twenty-first century.

Countries at the Crossroads is an annual survey of government
performance in 30 key countries worldwide that are at a critical
crossroads in determining their political future. Crossroads
provides a unique comparative tool for assessing government
performance in the areas of accountability and public voice, civil
liberties, rule of law, and anticorruption and transparency. The
countries evaluated in Crossroads represent a range of governments:
traditional or constitutional monarchies, one-party states or
outright dictatorships, failed states, states where reforms have
stalled or lagged behind, and states that suffer from insurgencies.
The survey provides a comparative, in-depth assessment of
democratic governance intended to help government officials,
scholars, educators, nongovernmental organizations, and the media
identify areas of progress and highlight points of concern. For the
international community, the survey helps target diplomatic efforts
and reform assistance. The narratives and scores clearly highlight
the problems and successes of each government, and separate
recommendations sections prioritize the steps that should be taken
by the countries in question to remedy deficiencies in governance.

Over the past decade, illiberal powers have become emboldened and
gained influence within the global arena. Leading authoritarian
countries-including China, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and
Venezuela-have developed new tools and strategies to contain the
spread of democracy and challenge the liberal international
political order. Meanwhile, the advanced democracies have
retreated, failing to respond to the threat posed by the
authoritarians. As undemocratic regimes become more assertive, they
are working together to repress civil society while tightening
their grip on cyberspace and expanding their reach in international
media. These political changes have fostered the emergence of new
counternorms-such as the authoritarian subversion of credible
election monitoring-that threaten to further erode the global
standing of liberal democracy. In Authoritarianism Goes Global, a
distinguished group of contributors present fresh insights on the
complicated issues surrounding the authoritarian resurgence and the
implications of these systemic shifts for the international order.
This collection of essays is critical for advancing our
understanding of the emerging challenges to democratic development.

What really grabs you about this book is the way it goes from
leadership all the way to personal mastery without missing a beat.
It's a great handbook for any person who wants to have a meaningful
work life without blowing their health or their relationship along
the way.
Walker doesn't fake it either. He's grounded the book with the
Laws of Nature so, there's no theory about how things should be or
could be at work. He highlights the importance of the culture and
how for businesses to grow having the right knowledge and tools is
not enough if the culture does not evolve/adapt with it fast
enough.
His 'Aussie' attitude comes across really 'matter-of-fact' and
that really is refreshing when most business teachers and
consultants are still in starched collars and formal ties.
It's obvious that this book comes from real life experience and
the section for good self mastery looks like Walker is recounting
his 30 years in business, trying to help the rest of us not fall
into the same ruts and grooves that don't work. Like wise news for
young shoulders.

Christopher Walker has employed Eastern arts tools for years,
embracing the impermanence of life and helping people learn to
naturally heal themselves from the stress and emotional turmoil
experienced at the end of an intimate, personal relationship.
Founder of Innerwealth Consulting, Walker has coached thousands of
individuals to evolve and grow, using the universal laws of nature.
The ancient laws of nature tap the deepest core of an individual's
humanity dealing with emotional attachments, heartbreak and complex
human dynamics. The laws recognize three levels of human mind: the
lower mind, which is guided by material attachments; the middle
mind, which is guided by emotions; and the higher mind, which is
guided by the experience of the journey and cares nothing of the
outcome. The ancient laws provide guidance regarding how to work
with all three levels of mind to achieve harmony. Breaking Up:
Using the Laws of Nature to Learn How to Let Go applies ancient
wisdom to modern times to help one manage the end of a
relationship: to let go through the challenge of emotional and
physical separation, to move forward in life with love and passion
and to maintain respect for everyone involved.
