While industrial and chemical innovations have contributed
extensively to human advancement, the darker part of their legacy
has been the hundreds of thousands of polluted sites left behind.
Governments at all levels have rallied to support the remediation
and reuse of these land resources and put many of the nation's
brownfields back into productive use. This book presents two dozen
brownfield projects in the United States that have incorporated
sustainability, highlighting project features, best management
practices, and lessons from the field regarding the underlying
policies and practices that enabled these projects to be completed
or, in some cases, stalled, altered or abandoned. The case studies
represent an array of brownfield projects that aimed to go beyond
conventional practice and include a range and variety of end uses
(e.g., corner gas stations, industrial, office, residential,
brightfields, green space, mixed-use, and transit-oriented
developments). The cases investigate site histories, planning and
development and examine sustainability characteristics to
understand how projects overcame the barriers to brownfield reuse
and the implementation of sustainability features and derive a
series of lessons learned, including innovative policies, programs,
and/or funding mechanisms that helped make these projects work.
Sustainable Brownfield Development will be of interest to
developers, planners, consultants and community representatives
interested in environmental policy, urban planning, community
development, ecological restoration, economic development, and
parks planning by providing direction and inspiration for those
eager to erase the blight of the past and build a more sustainable
future.

This textbook presents a broad approach to otitis media ranging
from the basic to the advanced, and comprehensively reviews the
diagnosis, treatment, management, and complications of patients
with infections of the middle ear (OM). It has been proven that
children whose hearing has been affected by otitis media suffer
academically. Since their hearing is impaired, their scholastic
performance deteriorates, leading to multiple health and social
problems. This in turn has a cascading effect on the child's
ability to perform and cope. Quite often these problems are silent
and go unrecognized and misdiagnosed. The socioeconomic impact of
otitis media is profound and can deeply and adversely impact a
child's growth and development if not diagnosed correctly and in a
timely manner. The textbook starts by covering the basics,
including chapters on classification and terminology, anatomy and
embryological development of the inner ear, the immune system and
the inner ear, inflammation and infection, genetic predisposition,
current treatment strategies including surgical and non-surgical
approaches, and hearing devices. Following chapters review the
current and future state of the art in OM, including chapters on
tympanoplasty, temporal bone cholesteatomas, advanced hearing and
balance evaluations, advanced imaging evaluations, and
mastoidectomy. Textbook of Otitis Media will be a go-to
resource for otorhinolaryngology residents and fellows,
pediatricians, ENT surgeons, consultants, nurses, and audiologists.
This textbook includes the latest knowledge and advances for a
comprehensive range of disorders, including the management of
benign and malignant sinonasal tumours. Rhinology is now a fully
established and highly popular specialist field that has undergone
a major paradigm shift over recent decades. This progressive change
has been possible because of the synchronous developments in
technology, radiology, therapeutics and pharmacology. These
advances have changed clinical practice in every dimension, and
this has led to a truly global exponential rise in specialist
rhinological interest into the management of sinonasal
disorders.Contemporary Rhinology: Science and Practice opens
with the basic science of rhinology, with chapters that build an
understanding of the nose and sinuses. Chapters cover embryology,
anatomy, physiology, immunology, sleep disorders, and more. From
there, clinical assessment of the nose and sinuses is discussed.
The following sections cover pediatric sinonasal disorders and
inflammatory sinus disorders, such as pediatric rhinosinusitis,
pediatric nasal deformity, allergic and non-allergic rhinitis, and
fungal sinus disease. Following these are several chapters
discussing tumors and sinus and skull base surgery. The textbook
closes with coverage of a variety of smaller topics, such as
epistaxis, trauma to the nose and paranasal sinuses, and nasal
obstructions. The textbook features outstanding illustrations,
video clips, and key points to enhance understanding and
recall. This textbook’s balance of applied science and clinical
practicality makes is an ideal resource for anyone from trainee
surgeons to established specialists in rhinology.
