This book is a result of teaching stochastic processes to junior
and senior undergr- uates and beginning graduate students over many
years. In teaching such a course, we have realized a need to
furnish students with material that gives a mathematical
presentation while at the same time providing proper foundations to
allow students to build an intuitive feel for probabilistic
reasoning. We have tried to maintain a b- ance in presenting
advanced but understandable material that sparks an interest and
challenges students, without the discouragement that often comes as
a consequence of not understanding the material. Our intent in this
text is to develop stochastic p- cesses in an elementary but
mathematically precise style and to provide suf?cient examples and
homework exercises that will permit students to understand the
range of application areas for stochastic processes. We also
practice active learning in the classroom. In other words, we
believe that the traditional practice of lecturing continuously for
50 to 75 minutes is not a very effective method for teaching.
Students should somehow engage in the subject m- ter during the
teaching session. One effective method for active learning is,
after at most 20 minutes of lecture, to assign a small example
problem for the students to work and one important tool that the
instructor can utilize is the computer. So- times we are fortunate
to lecture students in a classroom containing computers with a
spreadsheet program, usually Microsoft's Excel.

If you've done some Arduino tinkering and wondered how you could
incorporate the Kinector the other way aroundthen this book is for
you. The authors ofArduino and Kinect Projects will show you how to
create 10 amazing, creative projects, from simple to complex.
You'll also find out how to incorporate Processing in your project
designa language very similar to the Arduino language. The ten
projects are carefully designed to build on your skills at every
step. Starting with the Arduino and Kinect equivalent of "Hello,
World," the authors will take you through a diverse range of
projects that showcasethe huge range of possibilities that open up
when Kinect and Arduino are combined. Gesture-based Remote Control.
Control devices and home appliances with hand gestures.
Kinect-networked Puppet. Play with a physical puppet remotely using
your whole body. Mood Lamps.Build your own set of responsive,
gesture controllable LED lamps. Drawing Robot.Control a drawing
robot using a Kinect-based tangible table. Remote-controlled
Vehicle.Use your body gestures to controla smart vehicle. Biometric
Station. Use the Kinect for biometric recognition and checking Body
Mass Indexes. 3D Modeling Interface. Learn how to use the Arduino
LilyPad to build a wearable 3D modelling interface. 360 Scanner.
Build a turntable scanner and scan any object 360 using only one
Kinect. Delta Robot.Build and control your ownfast and accurate
parallel robot. What you'll learn Arduino and Kinect basics

Witnesses to the Gospel: Reflections on Saints and Others who
Inspire, is a collection of 41 reflections on holy men and women
through the centuries who strived to live the gospel message of
Jesus Christ. Some of the people in this collection are canonized
by the Roman Catholic Church, some are going through the
canonization process and others have no intention of being
canonized but all of these people gathered here teach us how to
live our Christian lives. They are ordinary people who did
extraordinary things well. This book is a combination of biography,
scripture study and meditation that will challenge the reader to
strive and follow these men and women gathered here to be witnesses
to the gospel in the twenty- first century. As St. Francis de Sales
once wrote: "The Lives of the Saints is nothing more than the
Gospels put into practice." This book tries to prove this point.
