Benedict Cumberbatch and Rebecca Hall star in this five-part drama series set towards the end of the Edwardian era. The programme follows aristocrat Christopher Tietjens (Cumberbatch) as he marries the destructive Sylvia (Hall) despite being uncertain about whether the child she is pregnant with is his. He is determined to be faithful regardless of Sylvia's dalliances with other men but his resolve falters when he meets beautiful suffragette Valentine Wannop (Adelaide Clemens). As the First World War approaches Christopher's life only becomes more complicated.

Ordinary schoolgirl Mildred Hubble (Bella Ramsey)'s life is changed forever when Maud Spellbody (Meibh Campbell) comes crashing into her home and tells her about Cackle Academy, a school for budding young witches. Intrigued by what she hears, Mildred joins her new friend at the school's selection day and takes the entrance exam with hopes of getting accepted, despite her non-magical background. Two cockney brothers suffer a crisis of conscience as they try to sort out their financial problems by turning to crime. Director Woody Allen's tale stars Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell as the brothers, Ian and Terry Blaine, both eager to move on from their cash-strapped existence to brighter and better things. Ian (McGregor) helps run the family restaurant business, but dreams of finding the right opportunity to spread his wings, while Terry (Farrell), unable to make enough as a mechanic, supplements his income by gambling whenever he gets the opportunity. While Ian's life takes an upturn when he meets actress Angela Stark (Hayley Atwell), Terry's goes into freefall when he loses 90,000 pounds to a loan shark, who promises serious injury on default. When the boys' uncle Howard (Tom Wilkinson) turns up, offering a chance to clear Terry's debt in return for making an old business partner 'disappear', the brothers are suddenly faced with a major moral dilemma.
