This text is based on an inspection of the most important surviving manuscripts of Antiquity and a re-evaluation of the textual transmission of Cicero in the Middle Ages. All in all, therefore, the new edition rests on the collation of a larger number of manuscripts than that of Theodor Schiche (BT, 1915).

As a result of great popularity and continuous demand, Moreschini's "Boethius" has been revised in a second edition. The new edition features improvements and corrections in nearly 200 passages of the "praefatio," text, and "apparatus criticus."

Ein Schwerpunkt liegt auf literarischen Analysen der TragAdien Senecas als einzigen dramatischen Autor der Kaiserzeit, dessen Werke A1/4berliefert sind. Weitere BeitrAge zeigen indessen, dass andere Gattungen, insbesondere der Pantomimus, die soziale Wirklichkeit des Theaters, Spielplan und AuffA1/4hrungspraxis prAgten. Gleichwohl bildeten die Texte dramatischer Autoren einen wichtigen theoretischen Bezugsrahmen fA1/4r Literatur, Philosophie, Religion. Entsprechend stehen in zahlreichen BeitrAgen rezeptionsgeschichtliche Fragestellungen im Mittelpunkt, die einen Zeitraum von der archaischen Dichtung Roms bis in die frA1/4he Neuzeit umfassen.

Claudio Moreschini focuses on selected and as yet still understudied aspects of Boethius' life and works. He presents Boethius in the culture of the sixth century in Italy, outlines his great cultural project and discusses the problem of his Christian faith. The Consolatio Philosophiae is examined from the point of view of Latin Platonism, highlighting the aims of its poetry and its philosophical tenets. Moreschini also shows how Boethius combined Christian faith and philosophy in order to solve theological issues, most notably the Christological debates of his times or the question of the Trinity.
