R3,013 Discovery Miles 30 130 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In 2013, the International Conference on Advance Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE) turns 25. Initially launched in 1989, for all these years the conference has provided a broad forum for researchers working in the area of Information Systems Engineering. To reflect on the work done so far and to examine prospects for future work, the CAiSE Steering Committee decided to present a selection of seminal papers published for the conference during these years and to ask their authors, all prominent researchers in the field, to comment on their work and how it has developed over the years. The scope of the papers selected covers a broad range of topics related to modeling and designing information systems, collecting and managing requirements, and with special attention to how information systems are engineered towards their final development and deployment as software components. With this approach, the book provides not only a historical analysis on how information systems engineering evolved over the years, but also a fascinating social network analysis of the research community. Additionally, many inspiring ideas for future research and new perspectives in this area are sparked by the intriguing comments of the renowned authors.

Since the early 1980's, the IFIP WG8.1 conferences have provided a forum for the presentation and exchange of research results and practical experiences in the field of Information System Engineering. The WG8.1 '02 Conference is held in the beautiful Kanazawa area in North western Japan. The ubiquitous Web has revolutionised the way organisations communicate and work internally as well as externally and, consequently, the nature of information systems supporting business activities. Web-based systems have become the state of the art in information systems engineering in a very short time. As companies become more international in their strategies and activities, information systems themselves span the globe, led by the Internet. While the risks from failed systems may be enhanced due to higher expectations and increased complexity, we have the opportunity to learn more about the nature of information systems and to develop new engineering techniques and methods to improve the development of information services in a World Wide Web context. The aim theme of this working conference is "Engineering Information Systems in the Internet Context" and the programme address both technologies and methodologies for building them. x The call for the EISIC Conference was given international audience. The program committee was chosen from very well reputed researchers in the international information systems, web information systems and communication communities. Seventeen papers have been selected for presentation and discussion during the conference.

We would like to welcome you to the proceedings of the workshops held in c- junction with the 27th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER 2008). While the ER main conference covers a wide spectrum of conceptual modeling research, increasingly complex real-world problems demand new p- spectives and activeresearchin new applications. The ER workshopsattempt to provideresearchers, students, andindustry professionalswitha forumto present and discuss emerging hot topics related to conceptual modeling. We received 13 excellent proposals for workshops to be held with ER 2008. We accepted the following seven based on peer reviews: 1. The Second International Workshop on Conceptual Modeling for Life S- ences Applications (CMLSA 2008), organized by Yi-Ping Phoebe Chen and Sven Hartmann. 2. The 5th International Workshopon Evolution and Change in Data Mana- ment (ECDM 2008), organized by Fabio Grandi. 3. The 14th Working Conference on Requirements Engineering: Foundation for SoftwareQuality(REFSQ 2008)willbe held inthe beautiful city ofMontpellier, France, June 16-17, 2008. The main topic was ?tness of requirements engineering. Our economic p- ductivityandwell-beinginevery-daylifestronglyhingesoninformationtechn- ogy, and thus software quality. In most systems, quality is determined through the development process. With the spread of service-oriented and autonomic systems, software quality is continuously negotiated and adapted at run-time. Requirements Engineering sets the stage for quality, both at development- and run-time. Within these themes, the work presented spans a wide range of application domains such as public health, aeronauticsand the automotive industry. It also involvesa variety of requirements engineering techniques, from the most established (such as use cases or feature models) to the most innovative (such as search-based software engineering or negotiation constellations). The Sorbonne University is very proud to host this year the oms Conference on Object Oriented Information Systems. There is a growing awareness of the importance of object oriented techniques, methods and tools to support information systems engineering. The term information systems implies that the computer based systems are designed to provide adequate and timely information to human users in organizations. The term engineering implies the application of a rigorous set of problem solving approaches analogous to those found in traditional engineering disciplines. The intent of this conference is to present a selected number of those approaches which favor an object oriented view of systems engineering. oms '98 is the fifth edition of a series of conferences. Starting in 1994 in London, this series evolved from a British audience to a truly European one. The goal is to build a world wide acknowledged forum dedicated to object oriented information systems engineering. This conference is organized with the aim to bring together researchers and practitioners in Information Systems, Databases and Software Engineering who have interests in object oriented information systems. The objective is to advance understanding about how the object technology can empower information systems in organizations, on techniques for designing effective and efficient information systems and methods and development tools for information systems engineering. The conference aims also at discussing the lessons learned from large scale projects using objects. The call for oms was given international audience.

This volume presents the proceedings of the fifth Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CAiSE '93, held at the University of Paris-Sorbonne in June 1993. Initiated by J. Bubenko from the Swedish Institute for Systems Development in Stockhom, Sweden, and A. Solvberg from the Norwegian Institute of Technology in Trondheim, Norway, this series of conferences evolved from a Nordic audience to a truly European one. All the conferences have attracted international papers of high quality, indicating the needfor an international conference on advanced information systems engineering topics. The spectrum of contributions contained in the present proceedings extends from inevitable and still controversial issues regarding modeling of information systems, via development environments and experiences, to various novel views forsome specific aspects of information systems development such as reuse, schema integration, and evolution.

The market for information technology products is rapidly changing from a manufactur er-driven market where new products were determined by the evolution of technology, to a user-driven market where users buy only products corresponding exactly to their needs and where competition is very strong. Confronted with this market situation, hardware and software producers are being obliged to adopt new strategies, and to make a large number of products available on the market in response to a variety of different needs. As a result of the multiplicity of choice available, the design of an office system which corresponds precisely to user needs is becoming an increasingly complex task. With exactly this in mind, the Commission, as early as 1985, invited submissions of projects aiming at the development of such adequate tools in its Call for Proposals for the ESPRIT Programme, in order to assist companies in the design of their office systems. This topic was recognised as being of strategic importance, considering the low level of penetration of Information Technology in European enterprises compared to the United States and Japan. Following this strategy, the project TODOS was selected and launched. This project has successfully developed tools and methods for the definition of the functional specifi cation of the office system, as well as the system architecture and user interface -results which can be of great interest for the IT community at large.
