Pentecostalism is the fasting growing form of Christianity in the world. As such, it figures prominently in both RS and Theology research. This book focuses on Pentecostalism in S. Africa and the surrounding countries, like Zimbabwe. Pentecostalism is a particularly strong trend in Africa and so it is good to have a project that covers this area from an academic based there. The book takes a critical look at some of the more recent Pentecostal practices in churches in S. Africa and so will offer an insight into the lived religion of S. African Pentecostals. The book will have strong cross-market potential with African Studies.

This book provides an interdisciplinary exploration of the challenges faced by pastoral ministry in South African Pentecostalism as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as some interventions being made to manage these challenges. Contributors present descriptive approaches to churches' reactions to lockdown measures, and especially the adaptations generated within Pentecostalism in South Africa. Through a variety of approaches-including pastoral care, virtual ecclesiology, social media, and missiology-contributors offer intervention techniques which can help readers to understand the unique role of Christian ministry during the pandemic, in South Africa and beyond.

Religious Leaders and the Regime in the Second Republic of Zimbabwe looks at the nexus of religion and politics in Zimbabwe. Religious leaders and institutes are discussed as either regime enablers, resistors, or transformers. This book focuses on how religion has played a role in thwarting democracy and has acted as a machine to silence dissenting voices, repression, and poor governance. The book addresses religious figures such as Andrew Wutawunashe, Talent Chiwenga, Bishop Mutendi, and Mapostori. In discussing these figures, the book highlights how ZANU PF has taken advantage of religious power to thwart democracy while rewarding regime enablers. The book also discusses the road to 2023 Zimbabwean elections and highlights the role of the church in creating an enabling and catastrophic environment. This book challenges oppressive systems perpetrated by religious leaders and politicians.

A major challenge in African Christianity is presenting Jesus and his work of salvation in a way that demonstrates his superiority over evil powers and his sufficiency to fill the vacuum created by abandoned traditional religions in African Christians. This study argues that to build confidence in Christ, in Africa, one must go beyond African-oriented Christological motifs. The implications of the victory of the Cross over Satan and the ontological nature of Christian salvation must all be brought to bear on the African worldview. This analysis on the securing power of the African traditional religions, the person and work of Christ helps to shed light on how the Gospel can take root in the African Church, and it should be especially useful to all who are concerned to address the 'mile-long but inch-deep' factor of Christianity in Africa.
