Description of "Gone Raven," By: Colonel Charles Dahnmon Whitt This book contains 191 pages and is a collection of pictures, data, and home spun stories about growing up in the little coal town of Raven, Virginia. Raven is a part of southwest Virginia and in the Clinch River Valley. You will see how these hardy folks lived during the nineteen forties through the nineteen sixties. You will feel the warmth as you read about the culture of these mountain folks. You will see their honesty, their belief in God, their hard work habits, and their loyalty to their country and neighbors. This book is seen through the eyes of the author and his experiences growing up in Raven Virginia. This book takes you back to another time and I think another world. I use the term, "Gone Raven," as an example of the enthusiasm, adventure, and life of growing up in Raven, Virginia.

The Patriot, Hezekiah Whitt is based on a true story, I try to keep dates, places, and names correct. The book deals with the years 1760-1846 and is centered in what is now Tazewell County, VA. Hezekiah was an Indian Spy, Militiaman, Sheriff, and a life time Gentlemen Justice Of The Peace appointed by the Governor of Virginia in 1800. Hezekiah was a rebel against England and a Patriot to the Free State of Virginia and the United States. Hezekiah married an Indian Lady. The book has accounts of several Indian stories and fights. Also in the back is listed the descendents of Hezekiah Whitt. (Genealogy Section) Areas of South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois are all mentioned in this collection. I am a direct descendent.

It has fear and Christian Witness. It is based on a true story and taken from a part of "Legacy 2nd Edition" by the same author, Colonel Charles Dahnmon Whitt. He will travel with his Paw, Jonas Whitt, some 200 miles through really rugged country to build a grist mill in Greenup County Kentucky. I invite you to get on the heavy tool laden wagon and travel with Crockett and Jonas Whitt and see what they saw and did. Then help them build a grist mill on Big White Oak Creek, in Greenup County, Kentucky. See why Crockett Whitt had to leave Kentucky with great haste and get out of his beloved Kentucky.

I tell the tale in fiction but use facts as to how they relate to the tale. There is a Town Hill where once an Indian village stood. There is a County named Tazewell in Virginia, where a great river starts. Go back with the Colonel as he tells this tale of back to the Indians in a fantastic dream. My Transcending I live in the twenty-first century with all the marvels of electronics and speeding automobiles. I live a modern life with the exception that I love to read and do research on the past. I have often wondered what it would be like to go back in time and see our country in its virgin state. I always wanted to see how our Native Americans lived and how it all fit together. I wonder what they thought when they saw the first paleface in their world. I had been having trouble sleeping so I had my doctor prescribe me some sleeping pills. After a busy day I had supper, watched a little television. I took my new sleeping pills and headed off to bed. After tossing and turning for about a minute I was out like a light. An incredible thing happened next; I was transcended back in time to the deep woods of western Virginia to around 1600. I looked around at all the great beauty of the land and vegetation about me. The whole area was covered with a great canopy of trees. I could hardly phantom the site as I gazed upon this great beauty. The sun's rays crisscrossed through the high branches to create lumens' of heavenly light. I noticed the size of the tree trunks and guessed that most had to be 30 to 40 feet in circumference. I noticed that the woods floor was mostly clear of brush and that numerous trails crossed the vast woodland. I heard many sounds as the birds and animals communicated with each other. I looked at myself and even pinched my arm to see if it was me standing there taking it all in. Ouch It was me, but how I got here I cannot imagine. I looked at my wrist watch to see the time. According to my watch it was 3:05, but what day, month and year I had no idea. I had on my denim shorts, sport shoes and short ankle socks. I had on an old blue "T" shirt with the words, "Richlands High School." on it. This was the high school I attended back in the 1960's.

This book is written to show you that you are not alone. It is also written to show you that you are loved. Sure you have been in darkness but you can walk in the light and feel the peace of God. I have revealed much about my life in this little book. I have been in darkness and I now walk in the light and have peace, joy, and confidence to live each day knowing who is watching over me and where I will live after this short stay here on God's Green Earth. This book is a second edition and has been enhanced, edited, and material, pictures, and genealogy added. It is the same great story about an appalachian family relying on God to help them throught the rough times in the 19th century. The book is written in historic-fiction fashion where I keep the dates, names, places, and events correct but I let the folks talk, cry, laugh and even be mad. If they get on a wagon to go places I get on with them. The story deals with the years of 1836 to 1900 and is centered on southwest Virginia, but about 10 chapters cover Crockett's trip to Greenup County, KY. and back to VA. It also covers him as he fights off the Yankees while serving in the 29th Virginia Infantry. It tells about his capture and time in POW camp at Point Lookout, MD.

The un-told history of the common Confederate Soldier. Why be a Confederate? Why did they fight with so much spirit? What did they eat? What kind of uniforms did they wear? What about Confederates and God? What about transportation and marching? What percent of the common Confederates owned slaves? This book goes in-dept about un-told history that is not taught in schools.

Dahnmon's Little Stories is a mix of childhood to grown up stories. The funny and not so funny things that has happened to me. A few poems and some christian witness.
