The aim of this book is to discuss the most important aspects of
women's status at the beginning of the twentieth century by drawing
a parallel between Romanian and British feminism. The novelty of
this book resides in the fact that it discusses the ideas of gender
and politics in the novels of some of the most important Romanian
modernist writers. The documents (Romanian old journals, articles,
diaries and declarations, modernist literary texts from well-known
Romanian authors such as Camil Petrescu, Hortensia
Papadat-Bengescu, or Anton Holban) as well as the period of time
analysed in this book are highly relevant to the way Romanian
feminism has evolved over the years.
