This text offers an interdisciplinary account of reference and
categorization within the framework of cognitive linguistics.
Central issues are the distinction between lexical vagueness and
polysemy as well as the creation of new meanings in English and
German. Polysemy is resolved by a computational implementation in a
machine-translation system.
