Over the last decade great investments have been made in the
acquisition of enormous amounts of gene sequence data from a
diverse collection of org- isms. Realizing the full potential of
these investments will require the continued development of
computational tools for comparative genomics and the intel- gent
application of these tools to address biologically relevant
questions. The RECOMB Workshop on Comparative Genomics (RECOMB-CG)
is devoted to
bringingtogetherscientistsworkingonallaspectsofcomparativegenomics,
from the development of new computational approaches to genome
sequence analysis andcomparison, to the
genome-wideapplicationofcomputationaltools to study the
evolutionary dynamics of prokaryotic and eukaryotic genomes. This
volume contains the 19 papers presented at the 6th Annual RECOMB-
CG workshop held during October 13-15 at the Ecole Normale Sup
erieure, in Paris, France. The papers selected for presentation and
published in these p- ceedings were selected from 48 submissions
from scientists around the world. Each paper was reviewed by at
least three members of the Program Committee in a stringent and
thoughtful peer-review process."
Before you can make that winning buzzer beater, you need to master

spacing, ball and player movement, shot selection, and scoring.
Defensive tactics emphasize positioning, pressure, and various
systems to apply in each zone of the court. At all levels of

On 7 December 1941, an armada of 354 Japanese warplanes launched a
surprise attack on the United States, killing 2,403 people and
forcing America's entry into the Second World War. With vivid prose
and astonishing detail, Craig Nelson combines thrilling historical
drama with individual concerns and experiences, following an
ensemble of sailors, soldiers, pilots, diplomats, admirals,
generals, the emperor and the president. Unmatched in breadth and
depth, Pearl Harbor: From Infamy to Greatness in a portrait of the
terror, chaos, violence and tragedy of the attack that would prove
to be a turning point of the war.
Craig Nelson has experienced places most people only dream about.
He has walked the Great Wall of China; taught New Guinea cannibals
how to dance; communed with a sign-language-speaking orangutan in
Borneo; gotten into an altercation with the People's Liberation
Army in Tiananmen Square; and taken psychoactive pharmaceuticals
with a male witch in the depths of the Amazon jungle. In this
vastly entertaining, often hilarious, and sometimes poignant book,
he shares his global jaunts and haunts with armchair travelers
everywhere.
A richly detailed and dramatic account of one of the greatest
achievements of humankind
At 9: 32 A.M. on July 16, 1969, the Apollo 11 rocket launched in
the presence of more than a million spectators who had gathered to
witness a truly historic event. It carried Neil Armstrong, Buzz
Aldrin, and Mike Collins to the last frontier of human imagination:
the moon.
"Rocket Men" is the thrilling story of the moon mission, and it
restores the mystery and majesty to an event that may have become
too familiar for most people to realize what a stunning achievement
it represented in planning, technology, and execution.
Through interviews, twenty-three thousand pages of NASA oral
histories, and declassified CIA documents on the space race, Craig
Nelson re-creates a vivid and detailed account of the Apollo 11
mission. From the quotidian to the scientific to the magical,
readers are taken right into the cockpit with Aldrin and Armstrong
and behind the scenes at Mission Control.
"Rocket Men" is the story of a twentieth-century pilgrimage; a
voyage into the unknown motivated by politics, faith, science, and
wonder that changed the course of history.
A fresh new look at the Enlightenment intellectual who became the
most controversial of America's founding fathers
Despite his being a founder of both the United States and the
French Republic, the creator of the phrase "United States of
America," and the author of "Common Sense," Thomas Paine is the
least well known of America's founding fathers. This edifying
biography by Craig Nelson traces Paine's path from his years as a
London mechanic, through his emergence as the voice of
revolutionary fervor on two continents, to his final days in the
throes of dementia. By acquainting us as never before with this
complex and combative genius, Nelson rescues a giant from
obscurity-and gives us a fascinating work of history.
Immediately after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D. Roosevelt sought to restore the honor of the United States with a dramatic act of vengeance: a retaliatory bombing raid on Tokyo. On April 18, 1942, eighty brave young men, led by the famous daredevil Jimmy Doolittle, took off from a navy carrier in the mid-Pacific on what everyone regarded as a suicide mission but instead became a resounding American victory and helped turn the tide of the war. The First Heroes is the story of that mission. Meticulously researched and based on interviews with twenty of the surviving Tokyo Raiders, this is a true account that almost defies belief, a tremendous human drama of great personal courage, and a powerful reminder that ordinary people, when faced with extraordinary circumstances, can rise to the challenge of history.
Nelson draws both on his interviews with other men and on his own
experiences in the gay dating scene to present this revealing and
often humorous guide. From breaking down psychological blocks to
surviving a breakup, Nelson explores the key issues in gay male
relationships and the baggage left over from adolescence.
