Conceptual modeling has always been one of the main issues in information systems engineering as it aims to describe the general knowledge of the system at an abstract level that facilitates user understanding and software development. This collection of selected papers provides a comprehensive and extremely readable overview of what conceptual modeling is and perspectives on making it more and more relevant in our society. It covers topics like modeling the human genome, blockchain technology, model-driven software development, data integration, and wiki-like repositories and demonstrates the general applicability of conceptual modeling to various problems in diverse domains. Overall, this book is a source of inspiration for everybody in academia working on the vision of creating a strong, fruitful and creative community of conceptual modelers. With this book the editors and authors want to honor Prof. Antoni Olive for his enormous and ongoing contributions to the conceptual modeling discipline. It was presented to him on the occasion of his keynote at ER 2017 in Valencia, a conference that he has contributed to and supported for over 20 years. Thank you very much to Antoni for so many years of cooperation and friendship.
"A Doll's House" is considered by many to be the first truly feminist play, reaching its climax as protagonist Nora rejects her marriage and her smothering life. "The Master Builder "explores the needs of the artist versus those of society, as well as the limits of artistic creativity, as aging architect Halvard Solness feels pressure from a younger, more idealistic and ambitious generation of architects and fears the decay of his own creativity. Since the "cultural turn" in the 1990s, increasing attention has been paid to ideological concerns and gender issues in relation to translation studies. This volume is a further illustration of this trend and focuses on the intersection of translation theory and practice with ideological constraints and gender issues in a variety of cross-cultural, geographical and historical contexts. The book is divided into three parts, with the first devoted to the health sciences, examining gender bias in medical textbooks, and the language and sociocultural barriers involved in obtaining health services in Morocco. The second part addresses the interaction of the three themes on the representation of gender and the construction of the female image both in diverse narrative texts and the presence of women in the translation of poetic works in Franco's Spain. Finally, Part Three explores editorial policies and translator ethics in relation to feminist writing or translation in the context of Europe with special reference to Italy, and in the world of magazines aimed at a female readership.
This book presents various studies that go beyond the mere opposition between macro and micro determinants of social and family changes. The cross-cultural, transdisciplinary and generational perspectives on selection of the partner, marriage, cohabitation, LAT relationships, divorces, ageing and interchanges, children, types of households, inheritance and construction of the domestic space contribute to deepen the analysis of diversity in families and their multiple interactions with cultural, demographic, economic, and social processes. The authors reveal the complex connections between the internal and external spheres of the family, the historical moments and contexts, the intergenerational experiences, the macro-structural processes and the individuals' multiple possibilities of action, between the everyday decision-making and the changes in the families' practices. Exceptional situations, such as catastrophes or economic crises, contribute to the diversification of the family and promote retrocession in gender equality. Crisis and war intensify female care and domestic work. Diversification implies that families are not adscripted to closed systems, determined automatically within also closed societies that portray family as a miniature reflection of social structures. Deconstructing this myth, most of the authors recognize family diversity and its variations in space and time. The understanding of the economic, social, cultural and demographic family processes and practices permits to relate population and society. The duplication of the life expectancy and the reduction of births by almost one half in entire populations worldwide lie behind marriage markets, reproductive practices, generational availability, coexistence probabilities, intergenerational exchange and new and different familial arrangements. Increases in life expectancy and changes in the timing and number of children lead social actors to reconsider gender and generational roles; the solidarity among generations has another background and acquires different meanings; although there has been an increase in gender equality, it has come with an increased social inequality within the countries and among them. Demographic processes are an inherent part of social processes, and the age structure of the populations constitutes the human and biological basis for the analysis of social behaviors that these populations choose to reproduce, as well as for the understanding of the differences in the distribution of resources into and between countries, genders, generations and social groups.
