This timely guide explains how businesses can effectively integrate
and coordinate career and succession planning programs to meet the
personnel demands of the future. Drawing on their experience and
expertise with workforce development, the authors of this book
based its content on a single but important premise. With global
economic instability, a slowdown in workforce growth, extraordinary
competition for the best talent, and the rapid advance of
technology, there is an immediate need to integrate career and
succession planning programs. Explaining how to do just that, this
practical, user-friendly guide is the first to link those critical
business tools, showing readers how to prepare for tomorrow-and the
many years after. The book presents a systematic approach through
which businesses can integrate and coordinate career planning and
succession planning programs. Part One makes the business case for
moving beyond segregated career and succession planning and shows
why they must be integrated. Part Two offers foundations for
integration, while Part Three outlines the strategies that can make
integration a reality. Part Four addresses the future of career
development and succession planning. Other topics include the
future of organizational infrastructure and the implications of a
diverse workforce. Employee engagement and leadership development
are also explored. Examines career development in a much broader
manner than is traditionally the case by focusing on both the
personal and professional development planning needs of employees
Demonstrates how employees who are given tools and organizational
guidance necessary to plan their development will usually be more
successful in meeting their career aspirations Expands on the
organization's role in establishing career development programs to
answer the question of who is responsible-the organization, the
employee, or both Includes cutting-edge research by leading
consulting firms such as BlessingWhite, Manpower Group, and DDI
Offers content that will be equally valuable to students,
practitioners, and academicians
Green Is Not Your Color is more than a book. It's a clarion call
for saints to smash boundaries and walk in the true calling of the
Lord. It not only challenges believers to examine themselves, it
convicts and drives into the hearts of God's people to be perfect
before our heavenly Father. It addresses issues in the body that no
one wants to discuss.
Although there are many texts on the law of evidence, surprisingly
few are devoted specifically to the comparative and international
aspects of the subject. The traditional view that the law of
evidence belongs within the common law tradition has obscured the
reality that a genuinely cosmopolitan law of evidence is being
developed in criminal cases across the common law and civil law
traditions. By considering the extent to which a coherent body of
common evidentiary standards is being developed in both domestic
and international jurisprudence, John Jackson and Sarah Summers
chart this development with particular reference to the
jurisprudence on the right to a fair trial that has emerged from
the European Court of Human Rights and to the attempts in the new
international criminal tribunals to fashion agreed approaches
towards the regulation of evidence.
I found this book to be riveting and very informative. It brings
out the essence of solid theological connotation. The book deals
with Biblical substance and truth, and it leaves fictional
metaphors out of the equation. It is a product of diligent research
and a higher level of scriptural perception. It is a composition
composed of validity and merit and I highly recommend it to
everyone with a genuine interest in learning sound Biblical
ideology. Rev. Dr. Willie C. Surles, Jr. D.M.E. 2000 Graduate of
Covington Theological Seminary. Rossville, GA.
This book explores the lived, embodied experiences of aging men as
a counterpoint to the weary stereotypes often imposed on them.
Conventionally, in Western cultures, they are seen as inevitably in
decline. The book challenges these distorted images through a
detailed analysis of aging men's life stories.
Remarkable advances in imaging have increased the importance of MRI
for diagnostic, treatment and management of epilepsy. Neuroimaging
of patients with epilepsy no longer simply deals with the
technology and interpretation of images but also with issues of
brain metabolism, energetics, cognition and brain dysfunction. The
first edition of Magnetic Resonance in Epilepsy came into clinical
practice in 1995 with a revolutionary idea; that is, MR is as
important as EEG in the clinical management of patients with
epilepsy. The second edition of Magnetic Resonance in Epilepsy, the
only comprehensive text in the field of epilepsy neuroimaging,
reviews fundamental concepts and new advances in MR technology,
computerized analysis, MR spectroscopy, DWI and other neuroimaging
techniques such as PET, SPECT and MEG application to the study of
patients with epileptic disorders.
*Provides a crucial update of recent advances in imaging
techniques
*Timely publication as subject of neuroimaging is a very "hot" area
in both clinical epilepsy and basic neuroscience research
*Editors are well-respected in this field
The role of the judge in criminal proceedings is a multifaceted one
that is subject constantly to new demands and challenges. In recent
times, for example, judges have been accorded greater responsibility
for case management in advance of trial, adaptations to the rules
of evidence have enhanced the scope for discretionary
decision-making, while legislative developments in the sentencing
field have forced a reevaluation of the judge's role in sentencing
offenders. In the near future, the judicial role in this
jurisdiction will take on a new dimension when the Human Rights Act
is implemented. This collection of essays includes contributions on
the above themes and beyond, including the issues of plea
bargaining, judges in emergency situations, judges and media
concerns, victims in the criminal process and magistrates' justice.
The collection is comparative and international in scope and
includes contributions from leading scholars in the United States,
Europe and elsewhere. Authors include Judge Jack B. Weinstein,
Andrew Ashworth, Mike McConville, and Justice Albie Sachs.
This book narrates and analyzes the southern tours by Booker T.
Washington and his associates in 1908-1912. The author provides
analysis of the importance of these tours in early 20th-century
race relations, and relates them to Washington's racial philosophy
and its impact on the various parts of black society. Instead of
focusing on how Washington struggled against W.E.B. DuBois in a
quest for leadership, this study emphasizes how he fought to
undermine white supremacy.
This is a book that will be helpful to readers, who are interested
in banking, management practices, leadership, and the Atlanta
business scene with insights of the "key movers and shakers" and
the deals they consummated. It will have a strong appeal for
bankers in general, neophyte managers, and the seasoned
professional. An abundance of practical business skills, strategy,
tactics formulation, and marketing techniques are presented. These
issues and insights are highlighted throughout the publication for
easy review and applicability. Many of my experiences in the Marine
Corps and in Vietnam are reviewed in the book as to lessons learned
and how these were ultimately modified to fit a business
environment. These stories and comparisons are unique. They will
provide the reader with insight into both the leadership and
management process viewed with a new and different approach under
very unusual circumstances. Banking customers should also find the
information helpful. It will provide them with a broader insight
into the banking world and issues involving their own financial
future.
In this follow-up to the ground-breaking, Dynamic Organisations, David Jackson leads the reader step-by-step through the change management process. He describes the change management process using a unique 'double loop' model and uses this to clarify processes which can otherwise appear intimidating, such as environmental scanning, direction setting, change planning, implementation and sustaining activities. A 'Change in Action' section uses vivid case-studies to show how real organisations have risen to the challenge of sustaining on-going innovation. David Jackson wrote Becoming Dynamic to communicate the lessons he has learnt after many years of working as a consultant with senior managers struggling to make change work in a variety of companies. This is reflected in his spirited and enthusiastic style and his refreshing take on much-discussed issues such as leadership, culture, learning and performance.
Health communication research examines the role of communication
in health professional/client relationships and in promoting
patient adherence, the flow of information within and between
health organizations, the design and effectiveness of health
information for various audiences and the planning and evaluation
of health care policy. Other important areas treated in this book
are cultural and social factors influencing health communication,
ethical issues effecting communication, and education in
communication within medical schools. Medical students, physicians,
policy makers, students and faculty in communications and
sociology, as well as social services professionals should find
this reference an important tool.
This book aims to honour the work of Professor Mirjan Dama ka,
Sterling Professor of Law at Yale Law School and a prominent
authority for many years in the fields of comparative law,
procedural law, evidence, international criminal law and
Continental legal history. Professor Dama ka 's work is renowned
for providing new frameworks for understanding different legal
traditions. To celebrate the depth and richness of his work and
discuss its implications for the future, the editors have brought
together an impressive range of leading scholars from different
jurisdictions in the fields of comparative and international law,
evidence and criminal law and procedure. Using Professor Dama ka's
work as a backdrop, the essays make a substantial contribution to
the development of comparative law, procedure and evidence. After
an introduction by the editors and a tribute by Harold Koh, Dean of
Yale Law School, the book is divided into four parts. The first
part considers contemporary trends in national criminal procedure,
examining cross-fertilisation and the extent to which these trends
are resulting in converging practices across national
jurisdictions. The second part explores the epistemological
environment of rules of evidence and procedure. The third part
analyses human rights standards and the phenomenon of hybridisation
in transnational and international criminal law. The final part of
the book assesses Professor Dama ka 's contribution to comparative
law and the challenges faced by comparative law in the twenty first
century.

"In 2012, U.S. and European firms accounted for the highest share
of revenue generated by the top international architecture and
engineering firms in Africa, at 27 and 31 percent, respectively,"
according to a U.S. International Trade Commission trade brief.
These findings show that the growth of company revenues in an
overseas market does not just have to depend on the sale of
manufactured products or agricultural commodities. Opportunities
also exist for service providers. International Trade in Services:
Effective Practice and Policy addresses a reality that receives
minimal attention in the current debate about international
trade-how the export and import of services drive a significant
portion of international trade. The United States has a US$269
billion surplus in trade in services with the world. On other hand,
U.S. trade in goods with the world continues to experience a wide
trade deficit of US$946 billion. Nevertheless, U.S. policy response
focuses mainly on the manufacturing and agricultural sectors. In
addition, as an international trade educator in business schools at
different universities, many of the textbooks emphasize the various
aspects of importing and exporting goods. Workshops aimed to
educate and inform the business community also focus on the trade
in goods. Consequently, business students and practitioners miss
another important component of international trade that presents
opportunities-trade in services. The book provides a simple, yet
thorough, introduction on how to export a service to an overseas
market. The book will guide its audience with a step-by-step
process on exporting a service from research to strategy to
implementation. Furthermore, the book will highlight the
opportunities presented by the international-level General
Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and bilateral and
regional-level reciprocal trade agreements. Service providers will
be able to use the book as a guide to start the export process
successfully with the first step. Essentially, the book will
provide results in the following areas: Time saving-The
step-by-step process, which highlights various programs, and the
list of key resources will save future exporters of a service the
time that they would spend trying to just understand another
market. Frustration reduction-The book's outline of the formal
mechanisms available to service exporters will save them from the
frustration that may arise from encountering trade practices, some
of which can also be very costly, in different markets that make it
difficult to compete against local service providers. Money
saving-Having substantive knowledge of formal mechanisms and key
resources that help to reduce the risks associated with exporting
to another market, such as not receiving payment, will help the
services-based exporter to use its financial resources more
efficiently while reducing its risk of nonpayment.
This volume considers the way in which the focus on individual
rights may constitute an obstacle to ensuring fairness in criminal
proceedings. The increasingly cosmopolitan nature of criminal
justice, forcing legal systems with different institutional forms
and practices to interact with each other as they attempt to combat
crime beyond national borders, has accentuated the need for systems
to seek legitimacy beyond their domestic traditions. Fairness,
expressed in terms of the right to a fair trial in provisions such
as Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights, has
emerged across Europe as the principal means of guaranteeing the
legitimacy of criminal proceedings. The consequence of this is that
criminal procedure doctrines are framed overwhelmingly in
'constitutional' terms - the protection of defence rights is
necessary to restrict and legitimate the state's mandate to
prosecute crime. Yet there are various problems with relying solely
or predominantly on defence rights as a means of ensuring that
proceedings are 'fair' or legitimate and these issues are rarely
discussed in the academic literature. In this volume, scholars from
the disciplines of law, philosophy and sociology challenge various
normative assumptions underpinning our understanding of fairness in
criminal proceedings.
