Seminary plays a crucial role in the lives of ministers, pastors,
and lay leaders. But seminary cannot teach you the real life, day
to day, practical experiences and operation of leading God's
people. In this book we will look at some practical principles a
pastor will not learn in seminary. Many pastors are in for a rude
awakening when they are called to their pastorate. They enter the
job with excitement and zeal, only to be later frustrated by the
everyday duties a pastor must deal with. This book will cover
everything from understanding your call, how to handle criticism,
do you and your church make a good fit, leading church meetings, to
knowing when your assignment is over. We will discuss how to plan a
construction project, dealing with ministry and staff betrayal,
finding a mentor, the power of preaching the Word and spending time
with the Lord in prayer. ( i will add a small photo of myself)

The Fourth Seal ...and when I had opened the fourth seal, I heard
the voice of the fourth beast say "Come and see," And I looked and
behold a running pale dead animal. And the name of he who sat on
the animal ...was Death, and Hell followed ...them. And power was
given unto them over the four parts of the earth, to kill with the
beasts of the earth ...-From the Book of Revelation Animals that
have been skinned for their furs are coming back to life and
skinning the people wearing their furs! Animals have been hunted
and killed for thousands of years. They were part of God's food
chain and kept everyone alive. For the last one hundred years, furs
have become charmingly fashionable; and now animals are skinned for
just their furs. Their bloody remains and bodies are left to rot.
Skinz follows the lives and family stories of furry animals that
ultimately end up being skinned for their pelts to create coats for
undeserving humans. Integrating real facts with their stories,
Stevens paints a realistic picture of the torture that the animals
experience in the creation of these garments. Now it's the animals'
turn to repay mankind ...and they're pissed!
Surviving critical illness is not always the happy ending we
imagine for patients. Many ICU survivors suffer from a range of
long-lasting physical and psychological issues such end stage renal
disease, congestive heart failure, cognitive impairment,
neuromuscular weakness, and depression or anxiety, which affect
their overall quality of life and ability to lead productive lives.
This lingering burden or 'legacy' of critical illness is now
recognized as a major public health issue, with major efforts
underway to understand how it can be prevented, mitigated, or
treated. The Textbook of Post-ICU Medicine: The Legacy of Critical
Care discusses the science of the recovery process and the
innovative treatment regimens which are helping ICU survivors
regain function as they heal following trauma or disease.
Describing the major clinical syndromes affecting ICU survivors,
the book delineates established or postulated biological mechanisms
of the post-acute recovery process, and discusses strategies for
treatment and rehabilitation to promote recovery in the ICU and in
the long term. The chapters are written by an interdisciplinary
panel of leading clinicians and researchers working in the field.
The book serves as a unique reference for general practitioners,
internists and nurses caring for long term ICU survivors as well as
specialists in intensive care medicine, neurology, psychiatry, and
rehabilitation medicine.
Postcards, individually and collectively, contain a great deal of
information that can be of real value to students and researchers.
Postcards in the Library gives compelling reasons why libraries
should take a far more active and serious interest in establishing
and maintaining postcard collections and in encouraging the use of
these collections. It explains the nature and accessibility of
existing postcard collections; techniques for acquiring, arranging,
preserving, and handling collections; and ways to make researchers
and patrons aware of these collections.Postcards in the Library
asserts that, in most cases, existing postcard collections are a
vastly underutilized scholarly resource. Editor Norman D. Stevens
urges librarians to help change this since postcards, as items for
mass consumption and often with no apparent conscious literary or
social purpose, are a true reflection of the society in which they
were produced. Stevens claims that messages written on postcards
may also reveal a great deal about individual and/or societal
attitudes and ideas.Chapters in Postcards in the Library are
written by librarians who manage postcard collections, postcard
collectors, and researchers. Some of the authors have undertaken
major research projects that demonstrate the ways in which
postcards can be used in research, and that have begun to establish
a standard methodology for the analysis of postcards. They write
about: major postcard collections, including the Institute of
Deltiology and the Curt Teich Postcard Archives the use of
postcards for scholarly research postcard conservation and
preservation, arrangement and organization, and importance and
value Postcards in the Library describes the postcard collections
in a variety of libraries of different kinds and sizes and
indicates very real ways in which the effective use of postcard
collections can result in and contribute to substantive, scholarly
publications. It also offers advice and suggestions on the myriad
issues that libraries face in handling these ephemeral fragments of
popular culture.Special collections librarians, postcard
collectors, postcard dealers, and historical societies will find
the information in Postcards in the Library refreshing and
practical. Libraries with established postcard collections or those
thinking about developing postcard collections will use it as a
valuable planning tool and start-to-finish guide.

This book, first published in 1982, focuses on providing
information about the policies and practices surrounding the
preparation and submitting of articles to the major journals in
library and information science. This guide includes all the major
American, Canadian, British, and international professional
journals that solicit, accept and publish articles in the field.
This new edition retains the appeal, clarity and practicality that
made the first so successful, and continues to provide a
fundamental introduction to the principles and purposes of rubrics,
with guidance on how to construct them, use them to align course
content to learning outcomes, and apply them in a wide variety of
courses, and to all forms of assignment. Reflecting developments
since publication of the first edition, the authors have extended
coverage to include: * Expanded discussion on use of rubrics for
grading * Grading on-line with rubrics * Wider coverage of rubric
types (e.g., holistic, rating scales) * Rubric construction in
student affairs * Pros and cons of working with "ready-made"
rubrics * Using rubrics to improve your teaching, and for SoTL *
Use of rubrics in program assessment (case study) * Application of
rubrics in the arts, for study abroad, service learning and
students’ independent learning * Up-dated literature review

An anthology of library humor by the director of the mythical
Molesworth Institute, Norman Stevens, this book is sure to provide
librarians with many hours of amusement. This collection is full of
Stevens'most memorable papers describing the odd kinds of research
conducted by the Institute, such as a sophisticated study of the
disappearance of umbrellas in libraries, a computer analysis of
library postcards, and a "precostretrieval" scheme to accelerate
the disintegration of book pages while saving the letters in them.
Archives of Library Research from the Molesworth Institute is also
well-stocked with unforgettable one-liners, such as the author's
"plan to solve a major space problem for libraries by microfilming
all Braille books."The imaginary Molesworth Institute has taken on
a life of its own since its story first appeared in the ALA
Bulletin in 1963. Stevens writes mostly for fun and entertainment,
but also to stress the point that librarians should take a less
serious view of their work. After all, as Stevens points out in
this anthology, "The library world, like the real world, [is]
impossible to understand on a rational basis." Now librarians can
enjoy the convenience of having Stevens'most treasured
papers--spanning over two decades--all in one very funny book.
In this book Dr. Dannelle D. Stevens offers five key principles
that will bolster your knowledge of academic writing, enable you to
develop a manageable, sustainable and even enjoyable writing
practice, and, in the process, effectively increase your
publication output and promote your academic career. A successful
and productive book and journal article author, writing coach, the
creator of a nationally-recognized, cross-disciplinary faculty
writing program, and with a long career as a faculty member and
experience as a department chair, Dannelle offers a unique
combination of motivation, reflective practices, analytical tools,
templates and advice to set you on the path to being a productive
and creative writer. Drawing on her experience as a writer, and on
her extensive research into the psychology of writing and the craft
of scholarly writing, Dannelle starts from the premise that most
faculty have never been taught to write, and that writers, both
experienced and novice, frequently experience anxiety and
self-doubt that erode confidence. She begins by guiding readers to
understand themselves as writers, and discover what has impeded or
stimulated them in the past to establish positive new attitudes and
sustainable habits. Dannelle provides strategies for setting doable
goals, organizing a more productive writing life, and demonstrates
the benefits of writing groups, including offering a variety of
ways in which you can experiment with collaborative practice. In
addition, she offers a series of reflections, exercises and
activities to spark your writing fluency and creativity. Whether
developing journal articles, book chapters, book proposals, book
reviews, or conference proposals, this book will help you demystify
the hidden structures and common patterns in academic writing and
help you match your manuscript to the language, structures and
conventions of your discipline be it in the sciences, social
sciences or humanities. Most importantly, believing that connecting
your passions with your work is essential to stimulating your ideas
and enthusiasm, this essential guide offers you the knowledge and
skills to write more.
Brain dysfunction is a major clinical problem in intensive care,
with potentially debilitating long-term consequences for post-ICU
patients of any age. The resulting extended length of stay in the
ICU and post-discharge cognitive dysfunction are now recognized as
major healthcare burdens. This comprehensive clinical text provides
intensivists and neurologists with a practical review of the
pathophysiology of brain dysfunction and a thorough account of the
diagnostic and therapeutic options available. Initial sections
review the epidemiology, outcomes, relevant behavioral neurology
and biological mechanisms of brain dysfunction. Subsequent sections
evaluate the available diagnostic options and preventative and
therapeutic interventions, with a final section on clinical
encephalopathy syndromes encountered in the ICU. Each chapter is
rich in illustrations, with an executive summary and a helpful
glossary of terms. Brain Disorders in Critical Illness is a seminal
reference for all physicians and neuroscientists interested in the
care and outcome of severely ill patients.

And you thought that being a vet was easy. You thought vets were
either good-looking and always on TV, or they were highly
intelligent doctors who spent their days curing and cuddling
puppies. You thought being a vet was all about flat caps and
off-road vehicles. Muddy boots and anxious, yet caring, looks over
farm gates with strangely attractive young farmers. These views are
all correct - and wrong. The world has changed (it always did) and
we now recognise that Vetting is all about the people who are vets.
The amazing folk who do the job and live the life. Being a Vet in
the 21st Century discovers what kind of people become vets and
explores how vets cope with their highly specialised life choice.
Being a Vet in the 21st Century takes a special look at how vets
are handling what is probably the biggest change the vet profession
has ever experienced - the recent and explosive influence of
consumerism and big-business on their everyday lives. This book has
been written for people who want to be vets. And it is for their
mums - they should definitely read it. It's for vet-students and
it's for new-vets who are just beginning. And it's for anyone else
who just wants to know more about being a vet, their personalities
and their happiness.

In May 1954 twelve select members from several disparate
organisations including Freemasonry, Propaganda Due, Opus Dei and
the Knights of Malta demanded a highly classified meeting with the
Special Assistant to the President of the United States. They
sought total suppression of an antediluvian artefact captured from
German forces in the last days of World War II. The horribly
disfigured keeper of an obscure archive within the Vatican is
compiling a dossier that reveals a message coded by the Knights
Templar within a stained-glass window before their extermination in
the 14th century; a message deliberately concealed by an
underground fraternity since it was hidden in the Holy Bible 2,000
years ago. As a young boy during the final days of World War II,
Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Antonio Valla witnessed a
terrifying truth, forever altering the course of his life. This
unspeakable event has steeled his determination to uphold the
conservative doctrines of the Holy Church. Anything less would be
heresy. Yet within the Holy See, an outcast toils relentlessly in
the archives of the Apostolic Penitentiary, compiling the most
heretical and subversive information ever gleaned from the ancient
manuscripts. The very authority of the Holy See is now threatened.
Should this information be released, it would topple established
religion and science. Powerful interests are determined that this
man be stopped, but it appears he has friends in high places. The
keeper has been transmitting information to a secret society that
seeks to uncover the explosive truth of human genesis. They seek
the help of Aiden Keyes, a paleo-anthropologist who has uncovered
an ancient crypt in Baalbek, Lebanon. Aiden discovers a curious
reference in the Holy Bible echoed in other historical documents
such as the 6,000 year old Sumerian writings: "And it came to pass,
when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters
were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men
that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they
chose. There were Nephilim on the earth on those days; and also
after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men,
and they bare children to them..." But his discovery is compromised
by a covert agency that is chartered with maintaining a fictional
religious history. Their goal is to obscure the incredible truth of
human origins. Aiden, together with the uncompromising but
beautiful Professor of Ancient Near Eastern Languages, Keisha
Peterson, must now fight malevolent forces that are gathering. They
must fight for their lives, and more importantly, for the release
of a revelation that will change the world forever.
Timothy Buttermen and Marie Santiago met at a pet walk park outside
of Tampa Bay Florida on a bright sunny day. On July 20, 2001 both
Maria and Tim were walking their pets; a golden retriever and a
charcoal gray colored Yorkie. Marie an animal lover instantly fell
into the arms of a much older man. After dating for a short time,
six weeks later they got married in a small chapel in Miami. Tim
felt as if he won the lottery finding a beautiful intelligent
single self-employed woman. What he doesn't know is he's being used
to serve a greater purpose. It all will become life threatening.
Love is blind and may cost more than some are willing to pay. Three
homes exist in a fifty mile radius. Your neighbors could be the
nicest people in the world also capable of becoming your enemy. One
of Tim's neighbors carries a dreadful secret. That will destroy the
Buttermen's family forever. Some people, the ones we least expect
can do unimaginable horrific crimes and most try to get away with
murder. Justice lies in the hands of a predator. Pray, hide, seek
shelter and sleep with one eye open. He's watching waiting to jump
out at you at any giving moment, Boo The devil can see and deceive
you and can't wait to take you from the life you live.
