Much of the world's forested land is dominated by mixed-species
stands. Understanding the complex structure and dynamics of these
mixtures is a necessary step in the process of formulating
appropriate silvicultural systems for their management. David M.
Smith, Professor Emeritus of Silviculture at Yale University, has
devoted much of his career to the study of the structure,
development, and silvicultural treatment of these kinds of stands.
This volume is presented by Professor Smith's collegues to honor
the contributions he has made to the field. It contains both
reviews of past work and results of current studies of mixed
stands: topics range from analysis of forest dynamics in unmanaged
stands to studies of silvicultural systems applied to mixtures,
with examples drawn from boreal, temperate, and tropical regions.
Much of the work stresses the importance of understanding the
characteristic growth patterns of individual species within mixed
stands, and how species interactions shape developmental patterns.

It is a very special honour for me to be able to present this
handbook of medical oncology, which under diverse headings and
origins covers such a vast spectrum of experience. I be lieve the
reader will be struck in particular by the impressive volume of
information available, especially with regard to childhood tumours,
which represent, today, an immense "lab oratory of hope". It is in
this very field that we oncologists have been able to obtain the
most consoling results in recent years. I feel sure that all those
who read these chapters will find that their oncological competence
is enriched and also in a certain sense that their wish to
contribute to progress in can cer research and treatment has been
renewed. In conclusion, my most heartfelt congratulations go to the
authors for the excellent job they have done, as well as my ad
miration for having been able to concentrate so much pre cious and
innovative information into so little space. Umberto Veronesi
Preface Since 1976, the VICC has been holding chemotherapy courses
in all parts of the world, excluding North America and Australia.
The Manual of Cancer Chemotherapy, origi nally devised as a
didactic tool to be used by course partici pants, expanded itself
in the successive editions to a compre hensive, although schematic,
textbook of medical oncology.
Recent years have seen increasing numbers of Protestant and
Catholic Christians converting to Eastern Orthodox Christianity. In
this book D. Oliver Herbel examines Christian converts to Orthodoxy
who served as exemplars and leaders for convert movements in
America during the twentieth century. These convert groups include
Carpatho Rusyns, African Americans, and Evangelicals. Religious
mavericks have a long history in Americaa tradition of being
anti-tradition. Converts to orthodoxy reject such individualism by
embracing an ancient form of Christianity even as they exemplify it
by choosing their own religious paths. Drawing on archival
resources including Rusyn and Russian newspapers, unpublished
internal church documents, personal archives, and personal
interviews, Herbel presents a close examination of the theological
reasons for the exemplary converts' own conversions as well as the
reasons they offered to persuade those who followed them. He
considers the conversions within the context of the American
anti-tradition, and of racial and ethnic tensions in America. This
book offers the first serious investigation of this important trend
in American religion and the first in-depth investigation of any
kind of African-American Orthodoxy.

You only find true love once in a lifetime. On a scorching hot
Saturday morning in 1998, sixth-grader Gabrielle Elise Davis will
meet the love of her life. This is the day the Jones family moves
into Gabrielle's Bridgeport, Connecticut neighborhood, amidst birds
chirping and the laughter of children. Gabrielle is playing outside
with her best friend, Alexus, when her path crosses that of the
Jones twins, brothers Gabriel and Tavarez. Gabriel doesn't know it
yet, but Gabrielle is going to be the only woman to steal his heart
away. I've Got a Man is the story of one couple's romantic
journey-a tale of true love, deadly schemes, and shocking twists.
Reserve Fund Essentials (RFE) has been written to deliver a wealth
of real-life practical know-how and insights. It focuses
principally on the creation and maintenance of reserve plans for
co-owned buildings and properties. These include condominiums and
townhouses as well as developments often referred to a homeowners'
associaltions, gated communities and managed properties. Membership
facilites, such as golf clubs, lodge organizations and religious
institutuions will also find RFE of value. RFE includes material on
setting up and working with properties' operating budgets. One of
the main thrusts of RFE is on the establishment of adequate
balances in reserve funds and in operating budget accounts. RFE
will appeal to the co-owners of units in the just-described
properties. Co-owners are often quite unfamiliar with decisions
that affect their funding or operating fee-contributions.
Professional service providers including reserve planners, property
managers, and accountants will also find the coverage in RFE
useful, not only for their own edification but also to help explain
these areas to their clients. RFE has been widely accepted by
readers in the United Staes and in Canada as a source of solid,
easy-to-understand material and useable opinions and advice.
.Life is not a long, quiet river.... Not peaceful, predictable or
secure... Not boring either, full of surprises, discoveries,
Mistakes, tries and mistakes again.... Life is a dangerous ride on
white water without life jacket... But a fabulous, exciting one, I
would like to take all over again...
