Despite the immense quantity of Poe criticism, the sheer diversity of critical opinion, like the author's own writing, warrants a comprehensive analysis of the oeuvre. The main concern of Prof. D. Ramakrishna's latest book, The Craft of Poe's Tales, has been a systematic application of Poe's fictional theory to his practice. Surely, the best way to judge a writer is to interpret him in the light of his own artistic goals.
