In the wake of the January 25, 2011 Revolution in Egypt there has
been much speculation in Western media about the role social media
played in bringing down Hosni Mubarak after 30 years of autocratic
rule, many even going so far as to call it a "Facebook revolution."
This book argues that social media greatly enhanced Egyptian
nonviolent struggle and political defiance as defined by nonviolent
struggle theorists Gene Sharp and Peter Ackerman, in particular by
enabling coordinated mass action, decentralization of leadership
structure, creation of alternative media and social structures, all
of which are key aspects of successful nonviolent struggle. This
book attempts to demonstrate how social media successfully
complimented nonviolent struggle in the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.
Key themes: Little known aspects of cloud-based strategic planning
documents in creating organized mass movement using social media.
Military-like application of social media as a decentralized
command and control platform. Force multiplier aspects of social
media and mobile devices and its implications for defense.
Application of Strategic Nonviolent Struggle principles using
social media in Egypt.
Another tale from "Beneath the Sky"'s vast Hudson Confederacy
universe... Michael was orphaned at seventeen, light-years from
home. His inheritance: a starship, distant relatives he never knew
existed, and inescapable questions that challenge everything he
thought was true. Michael's quest for answers takes him halfway
across the Confederacy, from the gleaming corridors of the wealthy
super-freighters to the dark holds of Father Chessman's pirate
ships. The truth is waiting for him, but he'll have to survive to
find it.
An Amazon.com #3 bestseller in Kindle Adventure books and #13 for
print books about Nepal during Christmas week 2012. One of the last
written accounts of the lower Annapurna Circuit before it was
changed forever by road development. In 2007 Dan Thompson, an Iraq
War veteran turned magazine editor, accepted an unexpected
invitation from a family friend to visit Nepal. The opportunity to
realize a boyhood dream first inspired on the pages of National
Geographic Magazine becomes reality when he and his wife Nora
arrive in Kathmandu comically over-prepared. Despite his military
and travel experience, the out-of-shape traveler finds himself
disoriented and dependent on the kindness of complete strangers,
including two young men who guide him along the famous Annapurna
Circuit. Together, they explore holy temples high in the Himalayas,
compete with donkey trains for precious space along the world's
deepest ravine, and save a woman from the brink of death. Along the
way, they meet emaciated medicine men, colorful grandmas on
pilgrimage, and an unfortunate series of frostbitten and aloof
western tourists like refugees among the peaks. From laugh-out-loud
misadventures with a parasite, to insightful discussions about
Nepal's future, Thompson weaves themes of globalization, religion,
development aid, and friendship into what is part adventure story,
and part coming to terms with post-Iraq War life. In the end, he
finds the answers to questions he has been searching for all along
while following the beckoning whispers of his heart. Includes over
20 photos, recipes of traditional foods mentioned in the book,
maps, and more. Each book purchased helps support sustainable
tourism in Nepal. Purchases will be matched to support book sales
in Nepal by Nepalese in local shops to raise funds for sustainable
tourism and education through a partnership with Tourism
Development Endeavors (TUDE). "For more information, visit

Maggie is a young schoolteacher on the multi-generation colony
ship, God's Chariot, bound for their promised world, New
Providence. When a faster-than-light freighter crosses their path,
a forgotten history catches up with them and puts their future in
doubt. Maggie and her father are drawn to the center of the
conflict over what will become of their colony, their faith, and
even their lives. It's the space-opera analog of the Mayflower
landing in modern Boston, filled with high technology, different
customs, and 747's cutting their travel time down to hours.
Battling conspiracy, politics, and even pirates, Maggie must rise
to the challenge or face her colony's doom.
