French police drama. In Paris, within the space of a year, a gang of vicious armed robbers has committed seven violent robberies. Detectives Klein (Gerard Depardieu) and Vrinks (Daniel Auteuil), once close friends but now bitter professional rivals, are each heading up different departments and are charged with bringing the gang to justice. Whoever does so will become the new Chief of Police, but the competition forces the two men to gradually abandon their sense of duty, professionalism, and even morality, as they ruthlessly compete for the ultimate prize.
Vincent Garenq co-writes and directs this drama based on real events. The film follows French accountant André Bamberski (Daniel Auteuil) in his struggle for justice following the death of his daughter Kalinka (Emma Besson/Lilas-Rose Gilberti) in mysterious circumstances. Accusing Kalinka's stepfather Dieter Krombach (Sebastian Koch) of deliberately drugging her while she was staying at his German home in Lindau, André is mortified when autopsy results come back inconclusive and the case is dropped. After battling for decades, André finally takes the law into his own hands in a desperate attempt to force a retrial in France.
Philippe Claudel directs this psychological thriller with an underlying love story. Lucie (Kristin Scott Thomas) believes that her neurosurgeon husband of thirty years, Paul (Daniel Auteuil), is having an affair. When Paul starts receiving gifts and flowers Lucie begins to suspect Lou (Leila Bekhti), a young Moroccan waitress from their local cafe, is the other woman. As the conflict between husband and wife drives Paul further away from Lucie and closer to Lou, he gradually spends more and more time with a woman he knows little about. Is Lou really all she says she is?
Acclaimed French thriller from writer-director Michael Haneke. Georges (Daniel Auteuil) is a successful TV presenter, happily married to Anne (Juliette Binoche). Their idyllic, middle-class life is suddenly derailed when Georges starts receiving tapes through the post, from someone who has been secretly filming him and his family as they go about their daily business. Gradually the tapes become more intimate and personal, suggesting that the perpetrator is someone who knows Georges well. With the police unable to help, Georges and Anne find their comfortable existence gradually unravelling into paranoia and mistrust. Be sure to keep watching as the credits roll...
