It was love at first sight. The game captivated the young boy's heart and his imagination. The years continued to go by and his passion continued growing. Then on his seventeenth birthday, he was given a book that forever changed his life. It was a book about scouting. This was it This is what he wanted to be He wanted to be an NFL scout Despite the many obstacles he faced along the way, from the volatile house he grew up in to never fitting in, he never lost sight of his dream. He barely finished high school and soon after failed out of a small community college, but that did not matter to him. His dream was football.... Even when his life was on the brink of being shattered, he believed deep down he could make it. One day while working as a loan officer, he was sitting in a meeting and had this thought go through his mind, "What am I doing here?" Right then and there in the midst of that meeting, ideas began popping into his head and he began putting together a plan that would prove to cost him nearly everything, but he had to go for it. He just had to go for it. After seven months of working relentlessly on something that had never been done before, the call came and Daniel was hired by the New York Jets to work in Pro Scouting. Out of nowhere and against all the odds he found himself working on one of the best staffs in league history. Through the eyes of a fan, is an unprecedented look of what it's like to work in the day-to-day operations of an NFL team and what it is like to be around many of the biggest names in the game. This book critiques the Rawlsian concepts of "justice as fairness" and "public reason" from the perspective of Christian political theory and practice. The Rawlsian paradigm has become pervasive in multiple disciplines outside political philosophy and is unconsciously embedded in a great deal of Christian public discourse; this calls for a new level of analysis from Christian perspectives. This is the first volume to examine Rawls based on Christian principles drawn from theological ethics, social thought, political theory and practical observation. In addition to theoretical perspectives, the book connects its critique of Rawls to specific hot-topic practical questions in three areas: social issues (abortion, marriage, etc.), economic issues (wealth creation, poverty programs, etc.), and the increasing difficulty of political compromise and peaceful coexistence in the context of the culture war. The book includes some of the leading Christian political theorists in America.
Profiles of influential Black women activists at a historic moment This volume offers a panoramic view of Black feminist politics through the stories of a remarkable cross section of Black women who attended the 1977 National Women's Conference. These women advocated for civil and women's rights but also for accessibility, lesbians, sex workers, welfare recipients, laborers, and children. The women featured in this book include icons Coretta Scott King and Michelle Cearcy, a teenager who served as a torchbearer at the conference. Contributors offer insights into the lives of Gloria Scott, Dorothy Height, Freddie Groomes-McLendon, and Jeffalyn Johnson. The profiles include activist organizers Georgia McMurray, Barbara Smith, Johnnie Tillmon, Addie Wyatt, and Florynce Kennedy. The hard-won achievements of politicians are examined and celebrated, including those of Barbara Jordan, Shirley Chisholm, Maxine Waters, C. Delores Tucker, the first Black female secretary of state for Pennsylvania, and Yvonne Burke, one of the first Black women elected to Congress and the first representative to give birth while serving. The final profiles cover Clara McClaughlin, reporter Melba Tolliver, and photojournalist Diana Mara Henry, who shared the details of the conference and the continual work being done by Black women with others through various media channels. This book places the diversity of Black women's experiences and their leadership at the center of the history of the women's movement. Publication of this work made possible by a Sustaining the Humanities through the American Rescue Plan grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

They called themselves Seawolves.... The men of SEALs, PBRs, and SF called them saviors.... Created in 1967, the HAL-3 helicopter squadron -- aka Seawolves -- provided quick-reaction close air support to SEALs, PBR River Rats, and Special Forces advisers and their troops. During the five years of the unit's existence, the seven detachments of Seawolves amassed stunning statistics: 78,000 missions, 8,200 enemy kills, 8,700 sampans sunk, and 9,500 structures destroyed. These 200 men collected a total of 17,339 medals. This is the story of one of those men.... Taking enemy fire while braced against the rocket pod of a Huey gunship and shooting an M-60 freehand in 110 mph winds was just part of Dan Kelly's job in Vietnam. As a gunner in the all-volunteer Seawolves, he served with distinction until three bullets bought him a trip home. Here is his amazing story of the Seawolves -- a harrowing tale of unsung heroism and undaunted courage in combat.
