Many religions say that there are "mysteries Man is not meant to
know." We are expected to believe in an all powerful God because
other people tell us to. That's not good enough. If there is a God
we need to know it for ourselves. Religion and Science butt heads.
Science says: "If a thing exists, there must be tangible evidence
and proof." Religion says: "God demands our unquestioning faith and
devotion. Just accept it and don't be blasphemous." With due
respect to both institutions, my view of the universe is this: If
God exists, and if He has a plan of action that involves me,
wouldn't it be His responsibility to let me know about it? I think
so. Apparently He agrees. He has given me evidence. It's sitting on
the table beside me right now, next to my Bible, and it's a dead
giveaway that God is really there.
Oh look, another Chess book. I've spent most of my life playing
this game and several things have become apparent to me. We learn
how the pieces move but overlook their personality. For instance
the Mighty King upon whom the entire game depends usually hangs out
in a corner with his buddies and sends his wife to do all the dirty
work. She seems glad to do it and it may be that she is one of the
reasons the King heads for the corner at the first opportunity,
perhaps shouting a quick "Yes Dear" as he dodges behind the Rook.
In this book you will learn the basics, the theory and most
importantly the characters who bring it all to life.
In 1983 I first came across Self Hypnosis. This was my first
glimpse into the vast power of the mind and one of the many tools
that can unlock its potential. I began searching for more
information about self hypnosis, the mind, and ways of accessing
the amazing resources within us. What I have found is nothing short
of awesome (I use the word in its correct context: inspiring,
creating an overwhelming sense of reverence or admiration, inducing
awe, etc., not the surfer context: totally gnarly, super cool,
wholly bodacious and so on.) This was the beginning of great
things. I used self hypnosis to memorize ventriloquism scripts; I
used it for creating extra energy bursts in gym class. I used it to
enhance my performance as a guitarist. I have been studying and
refining the techniques for over thirty years and it has changed my
life. Let me show you what I've found.
A collection of short horror stories straight from the imagination
of Darren Griffin. Each story gives you a glimpse into a different
realm of fear. Some will haunt you and some may even make you
laugh.
Few people would have believed that in the early years of the
twenty-first century humanity was being watched from the dark void
of space. Minds of vast intelligence were studying our species,
learning our abilities and seeking out our weaknesses. When the
time was right they would strike and our civilization would fall
forever. The Earth would belong to new masters. It would have all
gone according to their plans but they made one mistake. They
probed a redneck.
When I was a little boy and couldn't sleep my father, A. Duane
Griffin, would come into my room, and sit on my bed. I would
snuggle under the covers with my stuffed animals and he would tell
me stories about Mickey Monkey. These Mickey Monkey stories were a
wonderful part of my life for years and unfortunately, none of them
were ever committed to paper. Not having the benefit of my father's
memories of them as he passed away in 1999, I must rely on my own.
These stories may not be exactly as he told them over forty years
ago, but they are as close as I can remember and, I hope, reflect
the same spirit. I hope that through this book other children,
especially my own grandchildren, may snuggle under the covers and
drift off to sleep with the words: "Once upon a time in the Big
Green Forest. . ."
Young readers will see the importance of pretending and
imagination, then they will see this boy learn that the most fun
thing to be is yourself
In an age of adventure, the Scottish Mexican pirate Captain Duncan
MacSanchez and his brave, but quirky, crew embark on a quest for
the Blaze of Glory. It would be easier to find if they actually
knew what it was. What if real wizards and warriors played role
playing games? What would they pretend to be? In our modern world
of social media and texting, what kind of powers would superheroes
need to preserve civilization? This is a collection of humorous
short stories that takes a lighter look at mighty heroes and their
adventures.
