The Healthy and Sick Newborn, An Issue of Pediatric Clinics, Volume 62-2 (Hardcover, 62nd edition): David A. Clark The Healthy and Sick Newborn, An Issue of Pediatric Clinics, Volume 62-2 (Hardcover, 62nd edition)
David A. Clark
R1,796 Discovery Miles 17 960 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Community-based primary care physicians are routinely challenged as they stabilize, evaluate, and care for term and late-preterm neonates. Although there have been many spectacular advances in care of neonates, the challenges and successes of caring for the most preterm, very low birth-weight newborns seem to dominate presentations and the Pediatric literature. This issue concentrates on the current evidence and the collected experience of neonatologists regarding the basics of caring for the vast majority of newborns. The newest recommendations of multiple organizations (including the AAP) are presented, including the rationale for each recommendation as well as controversial issues. The individual articles will provide the primary care provider with a comprehensive foundation for care of the neonate.

Debating Climate Ethics (Hardcover): Stephen M. Gardiner, David A. Weisbach Debating Climate Ethics (Hardcover)
Stephen M. Gardiner, David A. Weisbach
R3,975 Discovery Miles 39 750 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

In this volume, Stephen M. Gardiner and David A. Weisbach present arguments for and against the relevance of ethics to global climate policy. Gardiner argues that climate change is fundamentally an ethical issue, since it is an early instance of a distinctive challenge to ethical action (the perfect moral storm), and ethical concerns (such as with justice, rights, political legitimacy, community and humanity's relationship to nature) are at the heart of many of the decisions that need to be made. Consequently, climate policy that ignores ethics is at risk of "solving " the wrong problem, perhaps even to the extreme of endorsing forms of climate extortion. This is especially true of policy based on narrow forms of economic self-interest. By contrast, Weisbach argues that existing ethical theories are not well suited to addressing climate change. As applied to climate change, existing ethical theories suffer from internal logical problems and suggest infeasible strategies. Rather than following failed theories or waiting indefinitely for new and better ones, Weisbach argues that central motivation for climate policy is straightforward: it is in their common interest for people and nations to agree to policies that dramatically reduce emissions to prevent terrible harms.

The Oxford Handbook of Anglo-Saxon Archaeology (Hardcover): Helena Hamerow, David A. Hinton, Sally Crawford The Oxford Handbook of Anglo-Saxon Archaeology (Hardcover)
Helena Hamerow, David A. Hinton, Sally Crawford
R4,896 Discovery Miles 48 960 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Since the early 20th century the scholarly study of Anglo-Saxon texts has been augmented by systematic excavation and analysis of physical evidence - settlements, cemeteries, artefacts, environmental data, and standing buildings. This evidence has confirmed some readings of the Anglo-Saxon literary and documentary sources and challenged others. More recently, large-scale excavations both in towns and in the countryside, the application of computer methods to large bodies of data, new techniques for site identification such as remote sensing, and new dating methods have put archaeology at the forefront of Anglo-Saxon studies. The Handbook of Anglo-Saxon Archaeology, written by a team of experts and presenting the results of the most up-to-date research, will both stimulate and support further investigation into those aspects of Anglo-Saxon life and culture which archaeology has fundamentally illuminated. It will prove an essential resourse for our understanding of a society poised at the interface between prehistory and history.

The Project - How Project 2025 is Reshaping America and the World (Paperback): David A. Graham The Project - How Project 2025 is Reshaping America and the World (Paperback)
David A. Graham
R403 R379 Discovery Miles 3 790 Save R24 (6%) Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In the months leading up to the 2024 presidential election, news spread about Project 2025, a nearly 1,000-page document published by the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation. The debates—and anxiety—surrounding this initiative have only increased as authors of the Project assume positions of power in the second Trump administration.

So, what is Project 2025, exactly? Who wrote it, what does it actually say, and what does it mean for everyday people around the world, across the political spectrum, in the years to come?

In The Project, award-winning journalist David A. Graham offers much-needed context and distills the essential elements of this sprawling document. Breaking down the Project’s strategy for transforming—and radically empowering—the executive branch, Graham then explains what the architects behind Project 2025 would do with that power: restoring traditional gender norms and the supremacy of the nuclear family, decimating the civil service, performing mass deportations, reducing corporate regulation and worker protections, and more.

Project 2025 is the intellectual blueprint for the new administration, Graham argues, and its tenets should not be legible only to policy wonks. Authoritative yet highly accessible, The Project demystifies it for those whose lives it will impact most.

The Future of Trade - A North American Perspective: David A. Gantz, Tony Payan The Future of Trade - A North American Perspective
David A. Gantz, Tony Payan
R3,513 Discovery Miles 35 130 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

This critical book assesses the current trade policy challenges facing the US and offers a series of recommendations which, if implemented, have the potential to improve both US domestic trade policy and international foreign policy. Focusing on the reform of the WTO, the implementation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement and the continuing rivalry between the US and China, The Future of Trade crucially advances the ongoing dialogue between US governments and stakeholders. This timely analysis proposes a clear, dynamic and comprehensive series of recommendations through an interdisciplinary approach analysing law, economics and public policy in relation to the US home economy and its position in the global economic order. Chapters propose key suggestions, including rebuilding support for an open trading system; fostering integration between the United States, Canada and Mexico; and a restructuring of the WTO to create an equal system for all members. As many world powers retreat from globalisation, David A. Gantz and Tony Payan argue that the US faces long-term challenges which will require effective non-controversial policy at both a national and international level. An invaluable resource for public policy, law, and politics scholars, particularly those focusing on trade policy, this comprehensive book will also be of crucial benefit to US government officials in trade bureaucracy, foreign officials, and members of State and Congress in the department of trade.

How can someone be perfectly imperfect? Isn't

that a contradiction? The Bible is filled with stories

of people with all kinds of flaws and imperfections.

The astounding thing is what happens

when God changes their lives.

Perfectly Imperfect is about people whose true-to-life

stories are found in the New Testament. They

are like us in many ways confused, tempted,

and often afraid, but then they meet Jesus, and

their lives are wonderfully transformed.

Through the character sketches in this book, we

learn how God works with us. We discover something

about the way God transforms us from what

we are into what we can be. In these sometimes

tragic and broken lives, we get a glimpse of how

God renews us and remakes us into people who

are perfectly imperfect.

Philanthropy in the Muslim World - Majority and Minority Muslim Communities (Hardcover): Shariq a Siddiqui, David A. Campbell Philanthropy in the Muslim World - Majority and Minority Muslim Communities (Hardcover)
Shariq a Siddiqui, David A. Campbell
R4,150 Discovery Miles 41 500 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Philanthropy plays an essential role in Muslim practice around the world. Using a new framing, Philanthropy in the Muslim World contributes to the literature by adding Muslim-majority countries that have not been previously included in cross-national philanthropy volumes as well as countries that have important Muslim minority communities. This book accomplishes five important tasks. First, it provides available research on different parts of the world where Muslims live and practice their faith and philanthropy. Second, it offers a cross-national understanding of philanthropy. Third, it illustrates the diversity and heterogeneity in philanthropic practice across different geographical contexts. It suggests that local culture, public policy, and regulations have an important role in defining local religious practice. Fourth, it helps us to understand how Muslims, in majority and minority contexts, seek to practice philanthropy after the terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001 and the Global War on Terror. Fifth, it pushes back against the notion of a ‘Muslim’ and ‘non-Muslim’ world, as these terms have little basis in either critical scholarship or Qur’anic discourse. In the academic world, the book will be important to those interested in the sociology of Islam, scholars of civil society and philanthropy, scholars interested in global philanthropy or Islam in a global context, and students in courses on Islamic faith and practice. However, this book would also be valuable for the non-scholarly educated reader including philanthropists, international NGOs, policy-makers, and practitioners who seek to understand how Muslim philanthropy can play an important role in social good interventions in different parts of the world.

David A. Deese
R3,185 Discovery Miles 31 850 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Elgar Research Agendas outline the future of research in a given area. Leading scholars are given the space to explore their subject in provocative ways, and map out the potential directions of travel. They are relevant but also visionary. With contributions from an international range of experts, this cutting-edge Research Agenda collates the most important and emerging research in the field to map out the new directions and promising paths ahead for the international political economy (IPE). Probing the most promising lines of research on the crucial inter-connections of globalization and socioeconomic inequality, the book opens with an investigation into our understanding of how externally generated financial, health, and migration crises affect political economic systems worldwide. Chapters explore fundamental changes in the nature of IPE, including those driven by technology, power transitions, the geography of trade, new foreign aid channels, and economic espionage. Rethinking the future research agenda for IPE, the book concludes by challenging the underlying ideas and perspectives that shape the thinking and scholarship of the field. Countering the deep-rooted western, white-male orientation of traditional IPE research with the alternative perspectives of decolonial and feminist ecological thinkers, this innovative Research Agenda will prove invaluable to students, scholars and policymakers concerned with the future of the international political economy.

An Introduction to the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement - Understanding the New NAFTA (Hardcover): David A. Gantz An Introduction to the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement - Understanding the New NAFTA (Hardcover)
David A. Gantz
R3,322 Discovery Miles 33 220 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), a modified and modernized version of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), will continue to govern most economic relationships in North America, including the more than $1.3 trillion in annual regional trade in goods and services, for the foreseeable future. USMCA preserves the bulk of the NAFTA structures that permit North American manufacturers to compete effectively with their European and Asian counterparts in North American and foreign markets. Once in effect, USMCA should largely resolve the chilling effect on investment and new hiring generated by three years of uncertainty over NAFTA's future. This book provides a detailed analysis and critique of the provisions of the USMCA and the USMCA's relation to NAFTA. It is designed to assist lawyers and non-lawyers alike, including law, economics and public policy scholars, business professionals and governmental officials who require an understanding of one of the worlds' most economically and politically significant regional trade agreements.
