They always manage to knock on your door at the worst possible
times. It's difficult to talk to Jehovah's Witnesses because they
test your Bible knowledge and spiritual endurance. But the effort
is worth it, because they need to hear the gospel from you. Reed, a
former JW elder, closely examines the Jehovah's Witnesses' favorite
Bible verses and discusses other important verses they ignore.
Teachings of the Jehovah's Witnesses and how they differ from
historic Christianity are documented in this study of Watchtower
publications from 1879 to 1989.
This book presents the Gospel of Jesus Christ in simple terms for
nonbelievers and new believers -- while also challenging long-time
churchgoers to re-examine their relationship with the Son of God.
Jesus says, "Come, follow me." (Luke 18:22) "Come to me, all you
who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take
my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in
heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy,
and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30) In today's world we
find many confused, distorted and watered-down teachings on what it
means to be a follower of Jesus. People are urged to 'receive
Christ' or 'accept Jesus as Lord and Savior' without a biblical
understanding of what that involves. Some teachers stress Jesus'
role as the Savior who forgives, without spelling out His role as
the Lord whom we must obey. Many churches today are like those in
the opening chapters of Revelation that Jesus told to "Repent, or
else... " This highlights the need for each individual to look to
Jesus and the Scriptures for direction, rather than just passively
listen to whatever is said from the pulpit. This book presents the
invitation to "Come, follow Jesus " in strictly biblical terms, by
quoting Scripture passages and by presenting them with minimal
comment or discussion. After all, it is in the Bible that we find
Jesus inviting us to follow him. And along with that invitation, He
spells out how we should go about doing so. "Jesus came to them and
spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to me in
heaven and on earth. Go, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded
you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.'"
(Matthew 28:18-20) DAVID A. REED is the author of more than a dozen
Christian books, including "Mormons Answered Verse by Verse" and
the popular "Jehovah's Witnesses Answered Verse by Verse."
Each year thousands of husbands, wives, sons and daughters are
converted by Jehovah's Witnesses through their so-called free home
Bible study. This book tells exactly what to do to rescue them from
the JWs. The main point to remember when a loved one first starts
getting involved with Jehovah's Witnesses is to avoid delay. But,
unless you are thoroughly versed on the Watchtower Society and well
trained as a debater, the JWs will shoot you down on every point.
This book helps you: (1) Plan your strategy and learn techniques
that work. (2) Collect convincing evidence. (3) Present your
material in the proper manner at the appropriate time. (4) Become
familiar with the tools you'll need. An unusual and valuable
feature is the inclusion of pages from Watchtower publications
which demonstrate falsehoods and inconsistencies in Jehovah's
Witness doctrine. DAVID A. REED spent 13 years as an active
Jehovah's Witness, serving as an elder and as the JW equivalent of
a local pastor. Reading the Bible itself led him to Christ. He has
authored more than a dozen books, including Answering Jehovah's
Witnesses Subject by Subject and the popular Jehovah's Witnesses
Answered Verse by Verse. His web sites on this topic include
www.AnswerJW.com and www.CFTF.com.
