Psychopathology: A Case-Based Approach provides future
practitioners with the requisite knowledge base and skill sets
essential to treating mental disorders and abnormal behavior. The
textbook recognizes the complex, multifaceted nature of treating
mental disorders and reveals the interconnectedness of the
constructs and dynamics inherent in such treatment. Readers learn
about the etiology, diagnostic process and nomenclature, treatment,
referral, and prevention of mental and emotional disorders. The
text provides the reader with a foundational understanding of a
vast range of mental disorders, as well as effective,
evidence-based treatments for each. The book presents current
scholarly research regarding theories, approaches, strategies, and
techniques for working with specific populations of clients with
mental and emotional disorders. Additional sections address
psychotropic medications and their effectiveness with particular
disorders; DSM-5 and ICD-10(11) and how they interrelate with
mental disorders; and ethical, legal, and practical guidelines
critical to establishing an effective and meaningful practice. In
addition, students are encouraged to reflect upon their motives for
becoming a mental health professional, including their personal
state of wellness and life adjustments that may be necessary to
support their personal practice. Written to provide fundamental
knowledge and encourage mastery of understanding mental disorders
and relevant treatment options, Psychopathology is an ideal
resource for counselors-in-training as well as practicing mental
health professionals.
"Counselor as Consultant "is a core text for a required course
in counselor education, mental health and psychological counseling.
This course teaches the theories, models, and skills of consulting
for counselors in training as well as the application across
various settings. Professional counselors often get hired to
consult in various settings such as schools, organizations, career
centers, etc. This book helps counselors in training learn
essential skills for consultation positions for those who opt not
to go into private practice. It helps students understand the
process and stages of consultation as well as some key skills such
as writing proposals, conducting workshops, drafting contracts,
fees, and reporting.
This text helps students to develop their own style of
consultation via strengthening their own identity development. By
encouraging them to develop a pattern of reflection and
intentionality which requires them to examine their own values as
part of the process, it in turn helps them understand common
consultant characteristics, review essential skills, and describe
theories and models of practice. Its unique focus on intentionality
and reflection enables students to develop a strong sense of
counselor identity, which will benefit them as consultants. The
book also contains a variety of teaching tools that helps students
proceduralize knowledge via practice accompanied by feedback, case
illustrations, reflective practice and counselor thinking boxes and
is closely aligned to the new CACREP standards.
Despite a wealth of epidemiological evidence of the profound
ill-effects of smoking on human health, we know surprisingly little
about the pathogenic mechanisms by which tobacco smoke actually
causes disease. Indeed, to our knowledge this publication
represents the first book that is entirely devoted to the molecular
and cellular mechanisms of tobacco-induced diseases. Considering
that smoking will directly kill 650 million of those people
currently alive, the lack of such a book represents a huge gap in
the biomedical literature. This important book fills this gap.
