David Ambrose's fascination with the world of entertainment began aged five sitting under the stairs of an isolated rural cottage, listening to the radio. He realised there was a life out there beyond anything on offer in bleak post-war Lancashire. His enthusiasm for theatre and film failed to be derailed by a law degree from Oxford, where his first plays were performed while he was still an undergraduate. Three years later he was sitting with Orson Welles and Laurence Harvey shooting a major Roman epic for which he had written the screenplay. An international career followed, taking in theatre, films, and eventually a series of mind-bending novels which have been described as 'Hitchcock meets Hawking'. Fifty years on Ambrose is still trying to work out how it all happened to that kid under the stairs with his radio. A Fate Worse than Hollywood is his attempt at an answer.

"It started with my father's death. At least, that was how it seemed at the time. Now, looking back, I realize how impossible it is to be sure where anything really begins; or, for that matter, where, or even whether, it has ended." COINCIDENCE You think about an old friend you haven't seen in a while—and he calls you out of the blue. You meet a stranger who knows your cousin—who lives on the far side of the world. You hear a phrase spoken on the radio—just as you read it in the book in front of you. Most of us dismiss such odd, everyday occurrences as insignificant. But writer George Daly can't help wondering what lies behind them. A quiet man living in New York City with his art dealer wife, Sara, George has never had anything truly unusual happen to him. So when he starts researching the phenomenon of coincidence for his next book, he regards his investigation as a purely academic exercise—until he discovers his family's hidden link to a dazzling theatrical couple of the 1950s and the twin brother he never knew he had. Larry Hart, a charming but unscrupulous man, is at first as astonished as George to meet his double. He quickly finds a way to turn this strange occurrence to his advantage, plunging George into a nightmare of deception and betrayal that threatens both his sanity and his life. Yet the true nature of what has happened threatens the survival of both men. And when its shocking implications are revealed, Larry and George find themselves locked in a deadly confrontation-one with a stunning and unexpected conclusion. Based on the author's own experience and study of the subject, COINCIDENCE is a breathtaking metaphysical thriller that confronts us with the astounding mysteries lying just below the surface of our daily lives.
Parapsychologist Sam Towne believes that ghosts come from the human mind, not from "beyond." To prove his theory, he invites eight volunteers, including skeptical reporter Joanna Cross, to take part in an experiment. In a series of seances they invent "Adam Wyatt," a tragic Revolutionary War hero, and are thrilled when he starts rapping on tables and spelling out messages. But when members of the group begin dying in horrifying ways, it becomes clear that Adam has taken on a strange and dangerous life of his own -- one feeding on their very thoughts and emotions. Now Sam and Joanna must destroy Adam before he destroys everything in their world -- and even the love they have found for each other turns into an endless, terrifying, inescapable nightmare...From cult classic author David Ambrose comes a story based on the true case of an experiment into the paranormal, a story that will change forever the way you feel about...
