Criminal proceedings, it is often now said, ought to be conducted
with integrity. But what, exactly, does it mean for criminal
process to have, or to lack, 'integrity'? Is integrity in this
sense merely an aspirational normative ideal, with possibly diffuse
influence on conceptions of professional responsibility? Or is it
also a juridical concept with robust institutional purchase and
enforceable practical consequences in criminal litigation? The 16
new essays contained in this collection, written by prominent legal
scholars and criminologists from Australia, Hong Kong, the UK and
the USA, engage systematically with - and seek to generate further
debate about - the theoretical and practical significance of
'integrity' at all stages of the criminal process. Reflecting the
flexibility and scope of a putative 'integrity principle', the
essays range widely over many of the most hotly contested issues in
contemporary criminal justice theory, policy and practice,
including: the ethics of police investigations, charging practice
and discretionary enforcement; prosecutorial independence, policy
and operational decision-making; plea bargaining; the perils of
witness coaching and accomplice testimony; expert evidence;
doctrines of admissibility and abuse of process; lay participation
in criminal adjudication; the role of remorse in criminal trials;
the ethics of appellate judgment writing; innocence projects; and
state compensation for miscarriages of justice.
This book focuses on the rapidly growing research field of
imperfect competition, asymmetric information, and other market
imperfections in a macroeconomic context. It brings together
leading researchers from the U.S. and Europe to examine the
implications for macroeconomic policy of market imperfections in
output, labor and financial markets. All the contributions are
original, and include several general surveys and expository
chapters that synthesize the larger literature, along with some
state-of-the-art research at the frontier of the discipline. This
is the first volume to focus exclusively on this literature. It
should be a valuable resource for graduate students and researchers
in macroeconomics.

Prior to the American Revolution, the Ohio River Valley was a
cauldron of competing interests: Indian, colonial, and imperial.
The conflict known as Pontiac's Uprising, which lasted from 1763
until 1766, erupted out of this volatile atmosphere. "Never Come to
Peace Again," the first complete account of Pontiac's Uprising to
appear in nearly fifty years, is a richly detailed account of the
causes, conduct, and consequences of events that proved pivotal in
American colonial history.
When the Seven Years' War ended in 1760, French forts across the
wilderness passed into British possession. Recognizing that they
were just exchanging one master for another, Native tribes of the
Ohio valley were angered by this development. Led by an Ottawa
chief named Pontiac, a confederation of tribes, including the
Delaware, Seneca, Chippewa, Miami, Potawatomie, and Huron, rose up
against the British. Ultimately unsuccessful, the prolonged and
widespread rebellion nevertheless took a heavy toll on British
forces.
Even more devastating to the British was the rise in
revolutionary sentiment among colonists in response to the
rebellion. For Dixon, Pontiac's Uprising was far more than a bloody
interlude between Great Britain's two wars of the eighteenth
century. It was the bridge that linked the Seven Years' War with
the American Revolution.

Mobilised by the rousing words and protests of Greta Thunberg,
young people all over the globe are calling for more action to
combat climate change and better protect their futures. Yet they
cannot do this alone. They are reliant on people in positions of
power to set the necessary changes in motion - and these people
include their own school leaders operating within their own local
communities. This book is a rallying cry for all schools to unleash
their potential to deliver a brighter future for both their pupils
and society at large.David Dixon draws on both his doctoral
research and his 20 years' experience as a head teacher to set out
how school leaders can embed eco-friendly practices in the
day-to-day running of their schools that will also contribute to
overall school improvement, including that recognised by
inspectors.David weaves his guidance around the 'five Cs of
sustainability' - captaincy, curriculum, campus, community and
connections - to position sustainability as a natural vehicle for
developing a type of fully integrated learning ecology and culture
for the benefit of all.The book provides a detailed analysis of
where we are now in terms of environmental impact, and lays out a
road map to help schools move towards more effective eco-friendly
provision. It shares practical examples of sustainability in
schools and how these contribute to school improvement in the
wider, more conventional sense too. Furthermore, each chapter
concludes with a series of suggested strategies to encourage
further thought and discussions among school stakeholders.Suitable
for school leaders, teachers and teacher trainers - in both primary
and secondary settings - and for any professionals who work in
schools on environmental education or improvement projects.
